JANE LITTLE: Old time friends and neighbors in Mono township learned with sorrow of the demise of Mrs. Jane Little, widow of the late Robert Little, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. N. Cruikshank, 36 Caroline Ave., Toronto, on Wednesday, January 19th. Although 87 years of age, Mrs. Little was ill only a short time. Deceased, whose maiden name was Jane Buchanan, was the eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Buchanan, of Primrose. She was born in Caledon, but moved to Mono Centre with her parents in her early teens and later to No. 10 highway at Primrose. In 1872 she was married to Robert Little, who died some seven years later. Following this bereavement Mrs. Little took up her residence with her brother, the late Samuel Buchanan, with whom she lived for sixteen years. Later she moved with her family to Toronto, where she had since resided. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Norman Cruikshank, with whom she lived, and a son, George Little. Another daughter, Mrs. Ida Wilson, passed away last February and a son, John, died at the age of four years. She also leaves two sisters and four brothers, Mrs. S. J. Cruikshank, Toronto, Miss Margaret Buchanan, Primrose, Mr. Jas.Buchanan, Camilla, Mr. Jos. Buchanan, Primrose, Mr. Fred Buchanan, Mono Centre, and Mr. Alex. Buchanan, Vancouver, B.C. A funeral service was held at her late home on Thursday evening, January 20th, by Rev. W. E. Wilson, pastor of King St. United church, assisted by her nephew, Mr. Harvey Miracle, a Trinity College student. Interment was made in the Forest Lawn cemetery Friday afternoon, following a largely attended service in the Orangeville Funeral Home. Rev. W. J. Booth, of Camilla, was the officiating minister and during the service Mr. Arthur Curtis sang "Face to Face." The pallbearers, who were nephews, were Messrs. John Little, Alex. Cruikshank, James Barefoot, Toronto, George Buchanan, Alex. Buchanan and Jas. Little, Camilla. Deceased was much beloved for her kindness, her ready sympathy and her willingness to assist those in trouble or distress of any kind. Relatives and friends present for the obsequies at Orangeville included Mr. Geo. Little and daughter, Eleanor, Mr. and Mrs. R. N. Cruikshank, Mrs. R. J. Small, Mr. W. J. Little, Mrs. Jas. They had 3 children: George, Ida and Martha. Her husband, Robert Little, was killed by lightning when Martha was 6 weeks old. Orangeville Sun - August 21, 1883 - OBITUARY - ROBERT LITTLE - KILLED BY LIGHTNING: Between nine and ten o'clock yesterday morning, during the heavy thunder storm, Mr. Robert Little of Lot 25, Centre Road, Mono, while engaged in unloading barley in the barn of Mr. Jas. Buchanan, near Primrose, was struck by lightning and instantly killed. Mr. Buchanan, who was on the load, was knocked down by the shock, but almost immediately recovered and discovered his companion lying dead by his side. No damage was done to the building beyond the tearing down of some boards at the point near the door where the flash entered. The whiskers on the right side of Little's face were burnt off. The electric fluid passed down by the body to the ankle, leaving a black mark in its passage. Deceased, who was about 28 years of age, was of a quiet disposition, and was much respected. Mary Ida LittleBorn 11 Sep 1880 Primrose, Ontario, Canada, died 20 Feb 1937, 56 years, buried Saint Ambrose Cemetery, Saskatchewan, Canada Shelburne Free Press - March 13, 1913 - WILSON-LITTLE: A quiet but pretty wedding took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Lindsay, 1341 Cornwall St., Regina, when the latter's brother, Thos. E. Wilson, a prosperous young farmer of Ardath, Sask., son of Chas. Wilson, of Primrose, was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to Miss Ida Little, eldest daughter of Mrs. Jane Little, also of Primrose. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. S. L. W. Harton, pastor of Roe St. Methodist Church, Regina, on Wednesday, Feb. 26th. At the appointed hour of five o'clock, the bride who was unattended and dressed in a beautiful gown of white all over embroidery, took her place in the parlor under an arch of evergreens and lace. After the ceremony the happy couple led the way to the dining room which was tastefully decorated for the occasion, where all partook of a sumptuous wedding repast. The remainder of the evening was spent in music and other amusements. The bride was the recipient of many beautiful and costly presents, among which was a handsome furlined coat with muff to match, the gift of the groom. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson left on the morning train for the future home. -Com. 4. N. CRUIKSHANK: There passed away in Shelburne District Hospital on Thursday, August 29, 1963, Martha Jane Little after an illness of five years. She was born in Mono Township in 1883, daughter of the late Robert Little and Jane Buchanan. On February 27, 1907, she married Robert Norman Cruikshank, who passed away six years ago. She was predeceased by two brothers, John James and George Samuel and a sister, Mary Ida (Mrs. Thomas E. Wilson) Mrs. Cruikshank was a valued member of Burns United Church, Mono Centre. The funeral services were held from the Gamble Funeral Home, Shelburne, to Forest Lawn Cemetery, Orangeville, on Saturday, August 31st. Rev. Frank Sullivan and Rev. Harvey Markle of Bolton, cousin of the deceased, preached the funeral services. Pallbearers were: Russell Thompson, Allan Elgie, George Little, Ralph Tredgett, George Buchanan and Ross Fines. Donations were made to Gideon Bibles, The Cancer Society, -and the many beautiful flowers were carried by Walter Little, Donald Couzens, Douglas Buchanan and Ronald Bailey. |
