Cecil John Bailey April 7, 1918-September 3, 2018
Cecil John Bailey was born on a farm in Eyebrow, Saskatchewan to Robert and Mary Bailey and had one older brother, Ralph. The farm is where his passion for animals of all kinds began: his horses, chickens, turkeys, cats and dogs, especially his beloved dog Pat, instilled a life-long love. Cappy came into his home and heart this last year. He always sat in Dad's chair and waited for him in the morning.

He went to school in a one room schoolhouse and went east to Toronto to study for his Chartered Accountancy.

He married Doris Withers on April 10 1943 in Toronto, and the rest of the adventure unfolded.

Maureen was born in Toronto. Joan and Pam were born in Bogota, Colombia where he was working as an auditor for Esso Oil Company.

Leaving Colombia, the family settled in Salt Lake City where he worked for Kennecott Copper. Kerry and Dennis were born there.

A chance meeting with an old friend on a highway going into Las Vegas led Dad and family to Bakersfield and the accounting firm of Book and Bailey in 1957. We kids loved the office location: right across the street from Dewar's Ice Cream Store.

Toastmasters and Canadian Club were important parts of Dad's life and many life-long friendships were started in those groups. He was on the board of trustees for Bakersfield Community College, including serving as president, and had the honor and privilege of presenting a nursing diploma to his future daughter-in-law, Kelsey.

Tennis and golf were sports that he enjoyed. He was a member of the Racquet Club and Stockdale Country Club, and of St. Pauls's Episcopal Church, which was a cornerstone both of his life and that of his family.

He inherited a green thumb from his mother, cultivating an orchard in Salt Lake City and a mini-orchard in Bakersfield, but this was nothing compared to what he could do with roses.

Doris passed away in January of 1981.

Cecil married Graci Hammond in March of 1982 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Graci passed away in August of 2017.

Dad died at Hoffman Hospice the morning of Monday, September 3rd. He leaves behind Maureen Davison of Portland, OR, Joan Weaver of Prunedale, CA, Pam Bailey of Tucson, AZ, Kerry and son-in-law Mark Fuller, also of Tucson, and Dennis and daughter-in-law Kelsey Bailey of Bakersfield, CA. He is survived by four grandchildren: Michael Patrick, Catherine Davison, Geddy Bailey, and Tyler Bailey. Bringing additional joy to his life is his great-granddaughter Presley Elizabeth Bailey, daughter of Geddy Bailey and Sarah Williams.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, with a reception to follow at the church.
