Canada, 90 years The Stanstead Journal - May 3, 1979 - Page 7 Former Stanstead Resident Passes Away Mrs. Harry (Lena) Perkins of Brockville, Ont., and formerly of Stanstead, passed away on April 26 at the age of 91 years. Relatives in town on Saturday to attend a committal service at Crystal Lake Cemetery were Mr. and Mrs. R.B. (Ruth) MacDonald of Brockville, Mr and Mrs. A.C. Perkins of Fort Erie, Ont., their son and daughter, John and Elizabeth; Mr. Russell Perkins and son Rustie of Brockville, Ont., and Mrs. Dave (Jean) Edson of Scarborough, Ont.; Mr. and Mrs. J.W. (Marion) McFadden of Smith's Falls were unable to be present due to their health. Local relatives were also in attendance at the service. Mr. and Mrs. Hector Channell (nephew) of Stanstead, served lunch in their home after the service. Perkins of Stanstead Mr. Harry Leslie Perkins, a highly respected citizen of Stanstead, died on Sunday afternoon, April 5, in a Newport hospital, where he had been a patient for two days. Mr. Perkins was born at Baldwin's Mills on May 9, 1889, a son in a family of five children born to Robert W. Perkins and his wife, Eidth Worth. He received his education at Baldwin's Mills school and at Stanstead College. Shortly after graduating from Stanstead College, Mr. Perkins went to Montreal and was for a time employed in the office of the Montreal Gazette, and later in the office of the British American Dve Company. In 1912 he returned to Baldwin's Mills and Stanstead and established a general insurance business, after being associated for a few months with an insurance firm in Montreal. He carried on this business, as representative for several large insurance companies, until his retirement in 1956. Mr. Perkins was an over 50 year member of Victoria Odd Fellows Logde, No. 16, Conticook; a member of Golden Rule Masonic Lodge, A.F. & A.M., Stanstead; and a member of Christ Anglican Church, Stanstead. He had previously served as secretary-treasurer for the Municipality of Stanstead Plain for a period of 12 years and secretary-treasurer for the Stanstead school Board for 16 years. He is survived by his wife the former Lena Channell, and their children, Marion, Mrs. J. McFadden, Smith Falls, Ont.; Ruth, Mrs. R.B.MacDonald, Town of Mount Royal; Russell S. Perkins, Brockville, Ont.; Jean, Mrs. David Edson, Scarboro, Ont.; and Channell Perkins, Rexdale, Ont. The funeral will be held on Wednesday afternoon, April 8 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Anglican Church, Stanstead. Children: 2.
