J. JACKSON: One of the best-known farmers of Tecumseth township, William J. Jackson, passed away in St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto, on June 22nd, 1941, following an attack of pneumonia. The funeral, held on June 25th, was largely attended by sympathizing relatives and friends from Shelburne, Grand Valley, Mono Mills and Toronto as well as from the surrounding district. Many beautiful flowers were received. The service at the home and at Alliston Cemetery were conducted by Rev. T. J. Jewitt and the following cousins acted as pallbearers: Messrs. John Little, Robert J. Little, James Little, Charles Watt, Charles W. Jackson and Norman Ford. Flowerbearers were nephews: Gordon Halbert, Matt. Hodgson, Carman McKelvey and Charles Jackson. Mr. Jackson was born August 6, 1868, on lot 25, con. 2, Mono. He was the son of William Jackson and Mary Ann Little, lifelong residents of this district. He farmed for ten years in West Gwillimbury township and the balance of his life in Tecumseth. He was a member of the United Church, a Conservative and an Orangeman. Enjoying the respect and confidence of his fellow citizens, he was honored with a seat on the municipal council for ten years. On March 6, 1895, he married Mary Jane McKelvey, who survives him with the following family: W. Leonard, Tecumseth; Mrs. Ansley Swaffield, Toronto; Dalton and Mrs. Alonzo Williams, West Gwillimbury. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, one brother (Robert) and two sisters, Mrs. Charles Bellerby and Miss Sarah, of Shelburne. WILLIAM J. JACKSON: Mrs. William J. Jackson passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Alonzo Williams, in West Gwillimbury township, on Saturday, May 14th, 1949, in her 80th year. Born in Mono on December 14, 1869, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William McKelvey (nee Ruth Laverty), early settlers of that township. After her marriage on March 6, 1895, to William J. Jackson, also of Mono, she moved with her husband to south half lot 8, concession 12, West Gwillimbury, where they resided until 1904, when they moved to south half lot 23, concession 9, Tecumseth. Her husband passed away in June, 1941, since which she has been living with her son, W. L. Jackson, and daughter, Mrs. Williams. The late Mrs. Jackson was an old and highly esteemed resident of Newton Robinson community, a member of the United Church, Newton Robinson, and life member of the W.M.S. Surviving her are two sons and two daughters: Leonard, on the homestead; Dalton, of Bradford; Mrs. Ansley Swaffield (Ruth), of Toronto, and Mrs. Alonzo Williams (Dorothea), of Bradford; also one sister, Mrs. Wesley Halbert, of Newton Robinson, who is the last survivor of a family of six. The funeral, which was largely, attended, was held on Tuesday afternoon, May 17th. A short service was held at 1.30 at the home of her daughter, followed by service in Newton Robinson United Church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. W. J. Burton, assisted by Rev. Mr. McTavish, of Bradford. who preached the funeral sermon, his text being Hebrews 4:9, "There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God." Rev. A. H. Halbert, of Alliston, who also assisted, sang, "Will There Be Any Stars in the Crown?" Interment was made in the family plot in Alliston Union Cemetery. The pallbearers were Dr. S. R. McKelvey and Harold Marshall, and four nephews (Carman McKelvey, Heber Waller, Matthew Hodgson and Gordon Halbert). Flowerbearers: Lawrence Copeland and four grandsons (Norris and Alvin Swaffield, Bruce Jackson and Ralph Williams). The funeral was attended by friends and relatives from Toronto, Owen Sound, Grand Valley, Orangeville, Shelburne, Minesing, Alliston, Everett, Tottenham and Thornton. -Beeton World. Children: 1. W.
