Shelburne Free Press, June 12, 1924 - MRS. MARY E. McGILLIVARY:
The quiet morning hours of Sunday, June 8th, marked the passing away of Mrs. Mary E. McGillivary of St. Thomas, daughter of Mrs. Wm. Jackson, Victoria St., Shelburne. In the death of one of St. Thomas' honored citizens a kind friend and loving mother is lost. Her pathway in life was a difficult one, yet she was the most optimistic person you could meet. She has left to mourn one grown-up daughter, Bertha, who skillfully and patiently nursed her mother through her illness, and one delicate son, Willie. Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Bellerby are at present in St. Thomas attending the funeral.

Married name: Christian, born ‎4 Dec 1901 St Thomas, Elgin, Ontario, Canada, died ‎31 May 1952 Orangeville, Dufferin, Ontario, Canada‎, 50 years, buried ‎Jun 1952 Orangeville, Dufferin, Ontario, Canada
Orangeville Banner, June 12, 1952 - Page 7 - MRS. CLIFFORD CHRISTIAN:
A well-known resident of Camilla, Mrs. Clifford Christian, passed away in Lord Dufferin Hospital, Orangeville, on Saturday evening, May 31st, following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Christian had been confined to hospital for several months.

Daughter of Daniel McGillivary and Mary Ellen Jackson, Mrs. Christian, whose maiden name was A. Bertha McGillivray, was born and raised in St. Thomas, Ont. In that city she received her education and for a time worked as a stenographer for the Municipal World. The nursing profession attracted her and she graduated from the Buffalo City Hospital as a registered nurse with the class of 1928. In 1929 her marriage to Clifford Christian was solemnized in St. Thomas and the young couple moved to the groom's farm at Camilla, lot 14, con. 2, Mono (on No. 10 Highway). Mrs. Christian possessed a natural bent for writing and contributed articles to nationally known magazines and newspapers. For some time she was a regular contributor to the news columns of The Banner. Her main interests were home and family, but her more than ordinary creative instincts found expression in gardening and other outside work around the home as well as in her writing. In case of sickness she was invariably "a friend in need" and during her years at Camilla went to many a family in distress.

Mrs. Christian was a member of the Reorganized Latter Day Saints Church at Grand Valley. She was an active worker in the Sunday School and church organizations. She was a former president and secretary of the Camilla Women's Institute.

Surviving are her husband, and three daughters, Marjorie, with the Bell Telephone at Orangeville, Norma, of London, and Pauline, at home. There are four sisters and a brother, Mrs. Ellis Duncan, of St. Thomas, Mrs. Martha Hyndman, St. Thomas, Mrs. Edna Thackeray, of Detroit, Mrs. Ettie Barker, of Winnipeg, and Mr. Daniel McGillivray, of London. Another brother, Mr. William McGillivray, of Woodstock, died three years ago. An aunt, Mrs. N. Bellerby, resides in Shelburne.

The funeral was held on Monday, June 2nd. Following service at the Turner Funeral Home, West Broadway, Orangeville, at 2 p.m., interment was made in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Mr. Edward Carter, of Lansing. Mich., and Mr. Robert Farthing, pastor of the Latter Day Saints Church, Grand Valley, conducted services at funeral home and graveside.

The pallbearers were Lewis Marshall, Orangeville; Robert Little, Toronto; Chris Sorenson, Shelburne; Bill Taylor, Fred Taylor and Walter Clarke, of Grand Valley.

The flower bearers were school friends of Pauline Christian: Mary Draffin, Florence Turner, Velma Avison, Mary Avison, Susan McCue, Marharet McCue and Helen Taylor.

Many lovely floral tributes testified to the affection and esteem with which the late Mrs. Christian was held by numerous relatives and friends.
