EDWIN WHITTEN: The community was shocked to learn of the passing of Reta Sarah McCague beloved wife of Edwin Whitten on Tuesday, afternoon, February 6th, 1962, in Shelburne District Hospital after a ten day illness caused by a heart condition. The late Mrs. Whitten was the youngest daughter of the late William McCague and Margaret Dermott, of Mono township and was in her 60th year. In October of 1921 she married Edwin Whitten of Amaranth where they farmed on lot 19 of the second concession of the township until the marriage of their son. Since that they have resided in Shelburne. The funeral which was largely attended was held on Thursday, February 8th, 1962 from the Gamble Funeral Home, Shelburne. The service was ably conducted by Mr. Carson Cowan, who spoke comforting words from 2nd Corinthians, chapter 5, and exhortation to live for the Eternal treasure that lives beyond this life as the departed sister had done. He was assisted by Mr. Andrew Blair at the mortuary. Left to mourn her loss are her husband, son, Austin and his wife Marion, and grandchildren, Lynn, Donna, and Diane. Four sisters, Mrs. Art Kirkpatrick, Mrs. J. A. Fines and Mrs. Harry Service, all of Shelburne and Mrs. Roy Ritchie of Hanover. Two sisters, Mrs. W. Fleming and Mrs. George Newton predeceased her and two brothers, Andrew and Herbert. Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased: Maurice Newton, Eric Kirkpatrick, Eldon Service, Oliver McRitchie, Angus McCague and Harold Rutledge.
