Obituary of Edward George Cherry
Ed was born in Saskatoon and met Judy, the love of his life, in 1964. At that time Ed was a trucker and made deliveries to Swift Canadian Company where Judy worked as a telex operator. Theirs was a short courtship and they married in April of 1965. In 1967 they welcomed their first son, Kirk and son Brad followed in 1969. With the exception of living one year in Thomson, Manitoba, Saskatoon was "home".

Ed was a carpenter by trade but a guy who wore many hats. He worked for Soo Security Motorways, Miners Construction and Inco (Thompson, Manitoba) and did contract work for K.F.C. (Joe Young). Ed started his own construction business in the 70's and did renovations (home and business) built many garages, rumpus rooms, decks, fences and furniture for the family including a special dog house for Kirk's "Chinese Chow Chow, Bear"! Ed would tackle any job - large or small. He loved a challenge and many saw this trait in some of the puzzles he chose to do. Ed was always available to help family and friends with different projects.

Hockey, baseball, bowling, fishing, scrabble, bingo, puzzles and occasionally casino were some of Ed's interests. He especially liked a game of cards with family and friends &. cards were a great pass time with the grandkids.

Going to the lake was something Ed looked forward to and he spent time at Cochin, Emma, Chitek and Canoe Lakes before building a cabin at Cochin in 1973 where he and the family spent many weekends from May through September for 17 years.

Trips outside Saskatchewan were to Ontario, British Columbia, Las Vegas and a family/grandma trip to Disneyland.

In the 1980's Ed semi-retired and he and Judy became "foster parents" for 20 years eventually retiring in 2007.

Ed is survived by his wife and confidante of 54 years, Judy; son Kirk (Vicky- her children Mitchell, Jennifer) and grandchildren Kaleb, Kiersten, Kirklin, Chanelle, Jordan; son Brad (Verna) grandchildren Jace, Jaridan and Tayson; his sisters Irene and Helen as well as other relatives. Ed also shared a special bond with his nephew Bruce Cherry. He was pre-deceased by his father (George) and mother (Mary), sister Violet and brothers Arnold and Ken.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the memorial reception hopefully planned for this summer, cannot take place and Judy and the boys have decided to "remember Ed" in this way. The family will gather at Brad and Verna's farm in Moosomin where Ed's ashes will be scattered on the hillside overlooking the valley.

Judy THANKS everyone for your prayers, visits and phone calls these past 6 months - especially Kirk & Vicky, Brad & Verna, her sister Carol and husband, Ken and her dear friend Debbie. Your love, guidance and support has helped and continues to help Judy in this "new path" she is on.
