Shelburne Free Press - February 9, 1922 - GEORGE LITTLE:
The angel of death claimed another of the much respected residents of Mono township on Thursday, Feb. 2nd, in the person of George Little, in his 73rd year. His health began to fail nine years ago. He was rendered incapable of the busy life he formerly led by rheumatism and heart trouble. At the time of his demise he had been confined to bed for three years and seven months and during that trying time he never complained nor lamented his disabilities. He was a most patient sufferer and as bright as noon-day intellectually until he closed his eyes in death. Deceased was born in Mono township on Lot 5, Centre Road. In 1871 he married Mary Jane Baker, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Baker, and together they settled on Lot 26, Prince of Wales Rd., Mono, where they lived continuously until his death. Last October they celebrated their golden wedding. In religion he was a staunch supported and worker in the Church of England, serving for forty years as superintendent of St. James' Sabbath School at Primrose. In politics he was independent, considering always the character of the candidate, rather than the party. He was for four years a member of Mono Council, 20 years a director of the Dufferin Farmers' Mutual Fire Insurance Co. and 30 years Sec'y-Treas. of S.S. No. 12, Mono and Amaranth. At the time of the Fenian Raid he joined the Orangeville Co. of the 36th Battalion. He was a member of the A.O.U.W. and at the time of his death was an honorary member of the L.O.L. No. 1277, Primrose, of which lodge he was a member by certificate for 50 years, having been a member of L.O.L. No. 320, Orangeville, by initiation for 4 years. He was an honorary member of the United Farmers' Club, Primrose. He is survived by his widow, who faithfully and tenderly cared for him throughout his tedious illness; also four sons and five daughters, Joseph G., Shelburne; Wm. J. and Mrs. Robt. J. Small, Toronto; Mrs. Robt. Bailey, in Saskatchewan; Mrs. Samuel Shaw, Beeton; Mrs. Fred Buchanan, Mrs. Herb. Lindsay and Robt., all of Mono township; and Thomas, on the homestead, all of whom were present at the funeral which took place on Saturday last, Feb. 4th, to Shelburne cemetery. The service at the house and grave was conducted by Rev. W. H. Hartley, Shelburne, assisted by Rev. Mr. Cootes of Camilla. The funeral was a very large one, considering the poor condition of the roads. The pallbearers were Messrs. Beatty Lewis, James Thompson (Orangeville), Jesse Freemantle, Samuel Buchanan, Chas. Wilson and John Little.

On Friday, December 16th, 1938, there passed peacefully away at his home, lot 26, Highway 10, Mono township, Thomas Little, youngest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Little, of the same place. His passing makes the first break in a family of nine.
They are: - Joseph G., of Shelburne; - Mrs. Fred Buchanan, - Mrs. Herbert Lindsay and - Robert Little, of Mono; - Wm. J. Little and - Mrs. R. J. Small, of Toronto; - Mrs. S. G. Shaw, of Aylmer, Ont., and - Mrs. R. J. Bailey, of Eyebrow, Sask.

The loss of such a kind and much needed husband in the prime of life is a sad one. Always keenly interested in the welfare of the community and especially the young, he was generous with his time, energy and worldly possessions. He was a lifelong member of St. James Anglican church, Primrose, and was Superintendent of its Sunday School for over twenty years. He was President of the Mono Religious Education Council for a number of years and was one of the first and most enthusiastic workers in promoting vacation schools in Mono township.

Mr. Little's long and trying illness was borne with such splendid fortitude and Christian faith that his example will be long remembered by all who knew him. A befitting prayer for his life and passing finds expression in the following lines: The Lord preserve thy going out, The Lord preserve thy coming in. His angels guard thee round about To keep thy soul from every sin. And when thy going out is done. And when thy coming in is o'er. When in the dear and hallowed place Thy feet can come and go no more, The Lord preserve thy going out From this fair world, from friends and kin, While angels standing round about Sing, "God preserve thy coming in."

The many friends who called at his late home all day Sunday and the large attendance at the funeral, which took place on Monday afternoon, bore tribute to the high esteem in which Mr. Little was held. Service was held in St. James Church, Primrose, by Rev. G. P. Parson, the rector, assisted by Rev. H. 0. Hutcheson, a friend and co-worker.

The remains were laid to rest in Shelburne cemetery. The pallbearers were six nephews: George Buchanan, Harry Shaw, Frank Brown, Frank Turner, Stanley Summerfield and Harold Watson.
