Stanstead Journal June 17 1909 Judd’s Mills About 80 attended the raising at Mr John Brock’s Wednesday. Mr. Brock is building a new barn to replace the one burned last year. He wishes to thank the neighbors and friends for their kind assistance. Much credit is due Mr Brack for trying to have it pleasant for the teacher and scholars. Stanstead Journal Sept 12 1912 The many relatives and friends were saddened to learn that Mr John C Brock of Stanstead, passed away at the homr of his daughter, Evelyn, and son-in-law, Lawrence G Dewey, on Friday, June 26, 1959 after a short illness. He was in his 89th year. Mr Brock was the son of the late John Chandler Brock and his wife, Elizabeth Edington Brock, one of a family of ten children, all which predecesaed him except one devoted brother, Edgar H.Brock who now resides on the home farm in Stanstead. Mr Brock was born on January 15, 1871 at Stanstead where he lived all his life, except for a few years in his young manhood when he was in the Canadian and American West Upon returning from the west he was united in marriage to Harriet Mabel Wood on September 6, 1899, and for the period of one year they lived on the home farm at Stanstead. Afterward they purchased the Henry Conner farm at Judd’s Mills Stanstead East on April 23 1900 where the surviving sons and daughters were born, and where the greater part of his life was spent. A few years ago he went to live with his daughter Evelyn. The deceased was one of the oldest residents of this place. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, a kind neighbor and friend to all. Mr Brock was road overseer for the Town of Stanstead East for over 45 years. He was a member of Christ Anglican Church, Stanstead: a 60 year veteran member of Tomfobia Lodge No 18 Independent Order of Odd Fellows of Rock Island Que being a past officer. He was also a member of Harmony Encampment No 16 IOOF Rock Island. Mr Brock is survived by two sons and three daughters: William J Brock, of St Johnsbury Vt., Frank H Brock of East Hardwich Vt., Mabel, Mrs Stewart Bullock, Evelyn, Mrs Lawrence G Dewey and Agnes Brock of Stanstead; also seven grandchildren, David W Brock of Long Beach Cal., Frank Brock Jr of St Johnsbury VT. John, Gailene, Harriet and Agnes Brock of East Hardwick Vt and Phyllis Dewey of Stanstead; one great grandson Lawrence Michael, son of Mr and Mrs Frank Brock Jr of St Johnsbury Vt. In addition to his immediate family, he is mourned by two daughters in law Mrs. William J Brock, of St Johnsbury Vt., and Mrs. Frank H Brock of East Hardwich Vt., two sons in law Mr Lawrence G Dewey and Stewart L Bullock of Stanstead; one brother Edgar H Brock of Stanstead and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral was held on Monday June 29 at Christ Anglican Church Stanstead with Rev A L Salt officiating. It was attended by many relatives and friends. The many floral offerings and messages of sympathy were tributes to the love and esteem in which he was held by all who knew him. An Odd Fellows Committal Service was held at the grave. Bearers were; Jack Cox, Richard Middleton, Elton Bennett, Charles Waide, Carlton Brainard, and Ernest Channell all members of the Odd Fellow Order. Frank Henry BrackBorn 30 Dec 1906 Stanstead, Memphrémagog, Quebec, Canada, died 26 Oct 1970 East Hardwick, Caledonia, Vermont, United States of America, 63 years Relatives and friends were saddened to learn of the sudden death of Frank Brock at East Hardwick VT on Monday Oct 26. Mr Brock was working in the woods on his farm when stricken with a fatal heart attack. He was born at Stanstead, a son of the late Mr and Mrs John brock. He was 62 years of age. His funeral was held at Christ Anglican Church, Stanstead on October 29, with interment in Maple Hill Cemetery, Stanstead. Mr Brock is survived by his wife, the former Iris McIntyre, also a Stanstead girl, and their family; two sister, Mrs Lawrence Dewey and Miss Agnes Brock, of Stanstead and a brother, William of St Johnsbury VT. Mabel Elizabeth BrackBorn 25 Jul 1909 Stanstead, Memphrémagog, Quebec, Canada, died 25 Apr 1968, 58 years After a lengthy illness, the death occurred on Thursday, April 25, 1968, of Mrs. Stewart L Bullock, at Sherbrooke Hospital. Mrs. Bullock had been in ill health for the past 25 years, undergoing several major operations during that time, and had been hospitalized continuously since September 29, 1967, at Sherbrooke Hospital. While at home she was tenderly cared for by her husband and two sisters. Mrs Bullock the former Mabel E. Brock, was born at Stanstead on July 25, 1909, the eldest daughter of John C. and Harriet (Wood) Brock. On June 29, 1940, she was united in marriage to Mr. Bullock, and had resided on the home farm in Stanstead all her lifetime. Mrs Bullock was a lifetime member of Christ Church, Stanstead , and for several years sang in the church choir. She was also a member of Crystal Rebkah Lodge, No 48. Mrs Bullock was a lover of music, and she derived much pleasure from her interest in growing beautiful plants and flowers, which were admired by all who saw them. She was highly respected by all who knew her. At the time of her death there were memorials as well as numerous flowers. The funeral was held from Cass Funeral Home, Stanstead, across the street to Christ Church on Saturday afternoon, April 27, for the service at two-thirty o’clock. Rev. R.W. Peirce officiated. The organ music was played by Mrs. Alfred Middleton, and the members of the choir led for the singing of a favorite hymn. The bearers were: Henry Brock, Frank Brock Jr. John Brock, Warren Soutiere, James Dewey and Sidney Hartley. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery. Mrs Bullock is survived by her husband, two brothers William J Brock and Frank H Brock; two sisters, Mrs Lawrence (Evelyn)Deweyand Miss Agnes Brock; an only uncle and aunt, Mr and Mrs Edgar Brock of Stanstead and more distant relatives. Prior to the noon day dinner, Miss Cindy presented her grandmother with a ruby red corsage of sweetheart roses aand Miss Cathy pinned a red carnation in her grandfather’s lapel. Being guests for the meal, they were joined by Mr and Mrs William Brock of St Johnsbury VT who were the wedding attendants of the happy pair 40 years ago. Brothers and sisters of Mr and Mrs Dewey joined the family and a pleasant afternoon was spent visiting and playing cards. At the supper hour, Mr and Mrs Dustin and daughters served coffee, sandwiches and squares. The celebrants were pleased with an anniversary cake made in the form of an open book by Mrs Horace Doyon, Stanstead iced in white with red roses and inscribed with “Happy Fortieth Anniversary Grammie and Grampa” a gift from their grandaughters, Cindy and Cathy Dustin, in which Mrs Dewey made the initial cut and the granddaughters passed the delicacy to their guests.
