HILL, J. Elwood - (Rock Hill Park, Spring Water Lakes and EI's Surplus Store)
On Saturday, February 11, 1995 at the Shelburne Residence and Retirement Home, in his 78th year, after a lengthy and debilitating ordeal with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases. Life long partner of his devoted wife M. Jean Little (1921-1993). The motivating influence behind his pride and joy, his five daughters; Sharon Middlehurst and Dennis, Mavis Wilson (former MPP and Cabinet Minister) and Bruce, Bonnie MacDermott and Graham, Marilyn Hill and Bud Adams and Mary Jean Laursen and Rob. Pops to Christopher Rusk and Lauri Bradley, Laurie Williams, Vanessa, Taylor, and Hunter Wilson, Angus and Caitlin MacDermott, Kayla and Justin Laursen and the late Adam Wilson. Dear great grandfather of Joshua and Zachary Rusk. Son of the late Rice Hill and the late Susanna Dean, of proud Irish roots. Brother of clement of Bright's Grove and predeceased by brothers Ernest and Lester and sister Rena (Olsen). Known for his love of life, Elwood was instrumental in beginning the careers of many Canadian country music artists. The family received friends at the Doney Funeral Home, Shelburne on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service was held in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, February 14, 1995 at 1 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Charles McMulkin. Spring Interment to take place at the Hornings Mills Cemetery. Donations may be made to either the Elwood Hill Equipment Fund for Shelburne Residence and Retirement Home or the Dufferin County Museum and Archives.

Hill- Little
An interesting wedding took place in St. James' Church, Primrose, on Saturday, June 6th, when Miss Mary Jean Little, eldest daughter of Mrs. Little and the late Thomas little, of Elba, was united in marriage to Mr. James Elwood Hill, youngest son of Mr. hill and the late R. C. Hill of Whitfield. The church was beautifully decorated for the occasion and the rector, Rev. J.H. Pogson, officiated.

The bride, given in marriage by her mother, was dressed in a floor length white taffeta dress with fingertip veil held with a becoming halo. She was escorted up the aisle by her cousin, Mr. Cecil Bailey, of Toronto. The bridesmaid, Miss Kathleen Morrison of Port Credit, wore a floor length dress of pale pink crepe with should veil held in place with pink rosebuds. The bride carried a white prayer book and the bridesmaid a bouquet of sweet peas. Mr. Wm. J. Clark was groomsman. The wedding music was played by Miss Viola Dermott and during the singing of the register Miss Iris Turner sang, "If I had a Thousand Lives to Live." The ushers were the bride's twin brothers, George and Leslie Little.

A reception was held at the home of the bride's mother at which about eighty friends and relatives extended their good wishes to the bride and groom. Later the happy couple left for a motor trip to Toronto and other Ontario points, the bride travelling in a tailored suit of teal blue with rose felt hat. Ont. their return they will live on the groom's farm at Whitfield.

On Thursday evening, June 19, friends and neighbors gathered at Whitfield Orange Hall to do honor to Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Hill, newlyweds and presented them with a studio couch and the following address, which was read by Mr. Maurice Horner:

Dear Elwood and Jean, - It is with great pleasure that we, your friends and neighbors, have gathered here to night to spend a social hour and to honor you as you have embarked on the matrimonial sea. You, Elwood, we have known since childhood, and all we can say is "good" about you. You have always been a willing worker, ready to do your part wherever you were needed. In the church, young peoples' and community life you have done your share, which was a big one. We are only too happy that you will still be with us and make another home in our community. To you, Jean, whom most of us already know, we extend a very hearty welcome and hope you will find much happiness among us. You are entering into the happiest time of life. May your friendships become firmer and warmer through the influence cast by the high esteem of the home you are about to establish here. "There's the happy time of marriage. But to to every man and wife. Also come the hurts and sorrows and the bitterness of life. For by these your faith is tested, "Tis by these your love shall grow, and my prayer is love shall guide you, wherever you shall go." It is a great pleasure to present you with this gift as a token of our lasting friendship and highest esteem for you both. May it serve to keep in remembrance your many friends at Whitfield.

On June 15th friends and neighbors of Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Hill gathered at Primrose Orange Hall and presented them with a miscellaneous shower and the following address, read by Miss Muriel Little:

To Jean and Elwood, --This evening some of your many friends and neighbors have gathered here to wish you bon voyage on his, your setting out on the sea of Matrimony. The sailing, we all hope, will be calm and pleasant, with just enough rough weather to make life full and to strength the bond of fellowship. To you, Jean, we extend our best wishes. We regret you are going away from Primrose. You will be missed, as you have always been a willing helper in the A.Y.P.A and church work. To you, Elwood, we extend our heartiest congratulations. You are quite will know in this community. We have been favored with your presence quite often in the past. Whitfield is not very far away and we hope to see you both here from time to time. We ask you to accept these gifts, trusting their presence in your home will be constant reminder of your friends at Primrose.

Jean was an active participant in life the Church, A.C.W., the Parkinson Foundation, Alzheimer's Society, W.I. Shepherd's Cupboard, Family Transition Place and the Orangeville BIA.

The family will receive friends at the Doney Funeral Home, 318 Main St. E., and Shelburne on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service in the funeral home chapel on Thursday at 12 o'clock Interment to follow at Hornings Mills Cemetery. At Jean's request, donations may be made to St. Paul's Anglican Church Shelburne.
