Orangeville 1932 - OBITUARY - WILLIAM JAMES LITTLE: William Little, one of Orangeville's oldest citizens, passed away at his home on West Broadway on Friday, April 22nd, after a short illness from the flu. The late Mr. Little who was a son of George Little and Alice Barber, pioneer settlers in the district, was born on lot 5 Centre Road Mono in 1840, and was therefore 92 years when overtaken by death. In 1868 he was married to Miss Margaret Anne Shaw of Malton, who died six years later. In January, 1879, he married Miss Hannah Twible, who came to Canada from County Monaghan Ireland. Two sons, Arthur George, since deceased and William John now living in Shelburne were born to the first marriage. In the second family there were two sons and three daughters: Margaret Anne, now Mrs. J. M. Stinson, Mono, Robert, of Toronto, James Barber, on the homestead in Mono, Alice Mabel, now Mrs. T. W. Hodgson, Route 3, Orangeville, and Miss S. J. Little, Orangeville all surviving. Mrs. Little is still living and is remarkably bright and active for a woman of her advanced years. Fifty-one years ago Mr. and Mrs. Little moved to lot 19, Prince of Wales Road, where they farmed with marked success for thirty years. Twenty-one years ago they retired and came to live in Orangeville. The late Mr. Little was a quiet industrious man, devoted to his home and family and an excellent neighbor. He was a member of St Mark's Church and staunch Conservative and had been identified with the Orange Order in his earlier life. In addition to his wife and family he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Matthew Wilkins, of Toronto, 94 years of age and Mrs. James Carson of Meaford who is 90 years. The funeral, which was a very large one, was held from his late residence to the Forest Lawn Cemetery on Sunday afternoon. Rev. H. A. West-McMaster having charge of the services. The pallbearers were the three sons John, James, and Robert and Messrs. John D. and Joseph Little and George Carson, Edmund Stinson and Harvey Little. Harold Little and Leonard Jackson were the flower bearers. Shelburne Free Press & Economist - July 31, 1957 - JOHN LITTLE: A well known resident of Shelburne passed away on July 2nd in the person of William John Little, son of the late William Little and Margaret Ann Shaw, of Camilla. Born June 26th, 1875, he spent his boyhood days and greater part of his life as a farmer in the Camilla district. In the year 1905 he was united in marriage to Bertha Island, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs.J. Island, of Orangeville, who predeceased him in 1913. To their union was born one son Eldred, who died at the early age of 15 years, in 1921. Mr. Little sold his farm on lot 19, Blind Line, Mono, and moved to Shelburne in the autumn of 1921, where he resided until his death. Mr. Little was of a warmhearted, kindly personality making many friends through the years of his life. He leaves to mourn his passing two brothers and three sisters: James, of Camilla, Robert, of Toronto, Mrs. James Stinson (Annie), Mrs. T. Hodgson (Alice), Mrs. George Walker (Sadie), all of Orangeville. His funeral from the Gamble Funeral Home, in Shelburne, to Forest Lawn Cemetery, Orangeville, on Thursday, July 4th, was well attended by relatives, friends and old neighbors. The pallbearers were Cameron Lemon, Jack Ledyow, Frank Turner, Earnest Curtis and Chris Sorenson.

WILLIAM LITTLE: Nine days after she had suffered a stroke, Mrs. William Little, a well known resident of Orangeville, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Walker, West Broadway, on Saturday, June 22nd. She was 82 years of age and had been a resident of Orangeville for the past twenty-nine years. Born in Monaghan, Ireland, Mrs. Little was a daughter of George Twible and Elizabeth Robinson. Her maiden name was Hannah Twible and she came to Canada when fourteen years of age with other members of the family. Settling in Mono Township, she was married when twenty years of age to William Little and with her husband moved to the Camilla district where they farmed until twenty-nine years ago, when they retired and moved to Orangeville. Their farm at Camilla was situated on lot 19, Highway 10, Mono. Mrs. Little was a staunch member of St. Mark's Anglican Church, Orangeville. While a resident at Camilla she had worshipped in St. Alban's Church. In younger years she had been an active church worker, and since coming to town was familiarly known to a large circle of friends. News of her passing was received with general regret. she was predeceased eight years ago by her husband. Surviving are one brother, Robert Twible, Toronto; one sister, Mrs. Jane Cherry, Saskatoon, Sask.; three daughters, Mrs. Jas. M. Stinson, Mono, Mrs. Thos Hodgson, Amaranth, and Mrs. Geo. Walker, Orangeville; and three sons, James B. Little, Camilla and Robert and John, Toronto. Her brother suffered a stroke a week prior to Mrs. Little's demise and was unable to attend the funeral service. Following a private service at the home on Tuesday, June 25th, a public service was held in St. Mark's Church. Canon H.A. West-McMaster, the rector, officiated. Interment was made in the Forest Lawn cemetery. The pallbearers were Messrs. W. J. Twible, Robert Twible and Meredith Twible, Toronto and the three sons, James, Robert and John Little. Flowerbearers were Edwin Stinson, Arthur Hodgson and Russell and Harold Little. LITTLE: James Barber Little, died in London on Monday, April 8, 1963. Six years ago, Mr. Little suffered a stroke. His death followed a second attack of pneumonia. He was in his 81st year and had made his home in Orangeville. Born on Lot 19, No. 10 Highway, Mono Township, he was the son of William Little and Hannah Twible. He received his education at Camilla and Gleno Public Schools. He was interested in baseball and other sports and he was a faithful member of Camilla United Church, all his life. After his parents moved to Orangeville in 1911, James Little and Ellen Sargent were married in Belwood in February, 1915. He and his wife lived on the homestead farm until 1957 when he retired to Orangeville. He is survived by a son, Russell Little, two sisters, Mrs. Alice Hodgson, and Mrs. George Walker (Sadie), a twin brother, Robert, Toronto, and four grandchildren. Services were conducted by Rev. F. Sullivan, formerly of Camilla, on Thursday, April 11, from the chapel of the Dods Funeral Home, Orangeville. Interment was made in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The daughter of the late William and Hannah Little, she was born at Camilla August 26, 1888. She attended Gleno Public School and Orangeville High School, graduating in 1906. She then attended Model School in Orangeville to become teacher and taught school at Camilla, Dundalk and Honeywood. On May 22, 1912, she was married in Orangeville to Thomas Wharton Hodgson of Amaranth Township. They farmed on the First Line of Amaranth. They had a family of six: Meta Hodgson, Sadie (Mrs. James Golden), Della (Mrs. Gordon Trimble), Ruth (Mrs. Frank Dermott), Arthur Hodgson and Betty (Mrs. Fred Duncan). After the death of her husband in 1937, she carried on the farm operation. In 1953, she moved to Orangeville where she took a keen interest in her garden. She was also an avid hockey fan. Her family was always her main interest. She is survived by her family of six children, 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. Mrs. Hodgson was predeceased by her husband; two sisters, Annie (Mrs. James Stinson) and Sadie (Mrs. George Walker); two brothers, James and Robert Little; and two half brothers, John and Arthur Little. The funeral service was held June 6 from Dods and McNair Funeral Home in Orangeville. Rev. Paul Taylor of St. Mark's Anglican Church, of which she was a member, officiated. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were four grandsons, Tom Hodgson, Alan Dermott, Paul Dermott, Don Trimble and two former neighbours, Roy Robinson and Gordon Gillespie.
