SMALL: Emily Little, wife of Robert J. Small, passed away suddenly at her home, 457 Quebec Avenue, Toronto, on Thursday, Nov. 13th. She is survived by her husband and one daughter, Mary, and one son, Robert. A daughter, Kathleen, died a few weeks ago. Funeral service was held in St. John's Anglican Church, Toronto, on Monday afternoon, followed by service in St. James' Anglican Church, Primrose. Interment took place in Shelburne Cemetery. Hunt conducted funeral services for Emily Little, beloved wife of Robert J. Small, of 457 Quebec Avenue, Toronto, who passed away suddenly on November 13, 1941, in her 59th year. Mr. Hunt took the text for his address from Rev. 8th cha., verses 9-17, and Isaiah, capt. 35. Funeral music was played by the organist, Percy W. MacDonald. Pallbearers were Messrs. Joseph Little, Wm J. Little, Morris Small, Edward Small, Wm. Robinson and Thomas Skells. The cortege proceeded to St. James' Anglican Church, Primrose, where Mrs. Small, prior to her marriage, had been a regular attendant and organist for a time. Here services were conducted by Rev. G. P. Parsons, assisted by Rev. H. R. Hunt. A large number of friends and relatives had assembled to pay their last respects to one who, by her many acts of kindness, had endeared herself to them. The hymns, "The Lord is my Shepard" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" were the same as those sung a few weeks previously at the funeral of the late Kathleen Small, daughter of the deceased. Mrs. Robert Lindsay was organist. From the church the procession proceeded to Shelburne Cemetery where interment services were in charge of Revs. Parsons and Hunt. Mrs. Small was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Little, of Mono Township. She spent her girlhood in this district. Since her marriage and up to the time of her death she and her husband have resided in Toronto. Mrs. Small had been an active member in St. John's Anglican Church, West Toronto, a devoted wife and mother and a friend to all. Flowers were received from many organizations, relatives and friends, many of whom came from a distance to be present at the service. Mrs. Small is survived by her husband, a daughter, Mary, and a son, Robert; also by her sisters, Mrs. Fred Buchanan, Mono Centre; Mrs. S. G. Shaw, Aylmer; Mrs. R. J. J. Small, 457 Quebec Ave., Toronto, formerly of Shelburne, passed away at the home of her parents on Saturday, Sept. 20th, aged 21 years. The parents, one brother and one sister survive. The funeral service was held at St. John's Anglican Church, West Toronto, Tuesday afternoon. Interment took place in Shelburne Cemetery. Shelburne Free Press & Economist - October 2, 1941 - KATHLEEN HAZEL SMALL: In St. James' Church, Primrose, the same church where thirty years ago her parents were married, final funeral services were conducted last Tuesday for Kathleen Hazel Small, aged twenty-one years, who died at her home on Quebec Avenue, Toronto, after two weeks' illness. Interment was made in Shelburne Cemetery. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Small, formerly of this district. Relatives and friends filled the church to pay their respects to the deceased and to comfort the parents in their sad bereavement. The service was conducted by Rev. G. P. Parson, the text being taken from St. John's Gospel, 11 chap., 25th verse. Mrs. Robert Lindsay was at the organ. The choir sang two numbers, "The Lord is my Shepherd" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus." Miss Small was a nurse-in-training at St. Joseph's Hospital, Toronto. Six of her classmates, Misses Blanche Evans, Marjorie Randle, Gladys Bonnell, Kathleen Lockhart, Beatrice Saplet and Anne Scondon, wearing their uniforms and caps, acted as honorary pallbearers. Active pallbearers were Messrs. Cecil Bailey, Wm. Little, Collins Little, Donald Arscott, Jas. Skells and John Robinson. Assisting in the service was Rev. H. R. Hunt, of St. John's Anglican Church, West Toronto, who had previously conducted a short service in that church, at which many relatives and friends in Toronto were present. The text of his message was taken from St. Mark's, 5:41. Music for the occasion was played by Mrs. Percy MacDonald. Kathleen was well known in the Shelburne district, having visited in the community quite frequently and spending her holidays here on many occasions. She had lived in West Toronto all her life and had attended Annette Street Public School and Humberside Collegiate. She was an active member in St. John's Anglican Church. A large number of people gathered in Shelburne Cemetery. Revs. Parson and Hunt completed the burial service. Flowers were received from many organizations, societies, relatives and friends, many of whom left Toronto to be present at the service. SMALL, William SMALL, William Robert - December 2, 1924 - July 14, 2008 ''Bob'' Small, surrounded by his family, passed from this world on July 14, 2008, in Bakersfield, California. Grandpa Bob is survived by his wife of 56 years, Iris Turner Small; daughters, Elizabeth Ennis (John) of Eureka, CA, Mary Jane Rosenblatt (Norman) of Bakersfield, CA, and Melanie Davidson (Greg) of Simi Valley, CA; grandsons Sean Ennis, Brian and David Rosenblatt; granddaughters Chelsie Rogers, Lauren and Katelyn Davidson; and sister Mary Polkinghorne of Orillia, Ontario, Canada. Grandpa Bob was preceded in death by his parents Robert John Small and Emily Little Small; and his sister Kate Small. Robert served in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1942 - 1945, where he earned his wings and a lifelong passion for flying. After World War II, Bob joined the Toronto Transit Commission where he drove a street car. While living in Toronto, Bobby married his lifelong sweetheart, Iris Turner of Camilla, and they began their family. In 1955, Robert and Iris relocated to Sunny Southern California where he joined the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transit Authority, where he spent 35 years operating street cars, driving buses, and acting as a transit supervisor. Grandpa Bob and Iris adopted Bakersfield as their home upon his retirement in 1990. They enjoyed a long retirement allowing him to traverse North America on numerous occasions, visiting extended family in Canada. Despite progressive and colourful cardiac events, Bob enjoyed tinkering with model trains, spoiling his grandchildren, and travelling the world. Services will be held this fall in Shelburne, Ontario, Canada where Robert will be laid to rest.
