MELEN, Harold Eric Harold Eric Melen, age 93, died on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at Ian Anderson House in Oakville, Ontario. From his birth in Tyvan, Saskatchewan, on December 8, 1924 to his death, he made friends everywhere he went. Being born on a farm in Saskatchewan just prior to the Great Depression, his family had a difficult life. Perhaps this shaped him into a strong and persevering young man who, after marrying his sweetheart, Gladys Richardson, worked two or three jobs to get ahead in the world and provide for his young family, eventually working for the St. Lawrence Starch Company in Port Credit for 40 years. Harold and Gladys had a blissful life that included friends and good times at a cottage in Muskoka and at their home in Florida. After losing his wife of 49 years he soldiered on continuing to winter in Florida and taking up golf at the age of 73 and playing until his 91st year. He will be dearly missed by his daughter Darlene Green, husband Dan and children Lucas, Hayley and Cody, his son Terrence, wife Ida and children Eric, Sean and Jesse, his son Lawrence and children Meredith (Tony) and Craig (Mireille), and son Randal, wife Shirley and children Miranda (Steve) and Marissa (Matt). He also had three great-grandchildren, Jackson, Zachary and Marina. All who knew Harold are invited to a Celebration of Harold's Life at the Acton Town Hall on November 11th from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Ian Anderson House in Harold's name would be appreciated.
