Shelburne Free Press & Economist - March 24, 1954 - SMITH-HORNER:
St. James Church, Primrose, was the scene of the wedding of Lorna Margaret May, daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Ernest Horner, and Earl Franklin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Duke Smith of Alliston, on February 20, 1954.

Rev. J. M. Dobson officiated at the double ring ceremony.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride looked charming in a gown of blue taffeta, with over net of the same shade trimmed with gold sequins and carrying a bridal bouquet. Her twin sister, Irene Horner, was her bridesmaid, dressed in pale blue taffeta, with over net of the same shade and carrying a bouquet of red roses.
Mr. Mervin Smith, brother of the groom acted as best man. The ushers were Mr. Neil Horner and Mr. Wilfred Smith, brothers of the bride and groom respectively.

Mrs. Viola Shubrook was organist and Miss Audrey Allen soloist, sang very sweetly "Wedding Prayer, and I'll Walk Beside You," during the signing of the register.

The grooms gift to the bride was a cabinet of silver, and to the bridesmaid a gold compact, to the soloist and organist silver butter dishes, to the groomsman gold cuff link sets, to the ushers gold tie pins.

A lovely wedding supper was served in the Parish Hall by the ladies of St. James' Church Guild.

Later in the evening the bride and groom left for a week's trip through Ontario.

They will take up residence on the groom's farm near Alliston.

Shelburne Free Press & Economist - July 25, 1973 - Front Page - THREE ALLISTONITES KILLED IN CRASH:
Sudden death struck at the happy holidaying Earl Smith family, of R.R. 2, Alliston at 8:55 Sunday morning as they were driving towards Algonquin Park from Huntsville, reports the Alliston Herald in its current issue.

About eight miles east of Huntsville on Highway 60, the Smith car, driven by Earl Smith, suddenly met a Ford pick-up camper going west in the eastbound lane. According to witnesses, as reported by the Huntsville 0.P.P., Mr. Smith tried to avoid a collision by swinging to the left but was struck on the right front by the oncoming camper. Both vehicles were demolished.

Ten year old James Eric Smith, who was sitting on the right side of the front seat, was killed instantly. His mother, Lorna, in the middle, died a few hours after admission to Huntsville Hospital, where all were taken. Mr. Smith escaped with facial cuts and other injuries and returned to his home on Monday.

Gail May, 17, riding in the back seat, died of injuries in the ambulance on the way to hospital. Her sister, Sharon, had both legs broken and Allan, age 14 received facial cuts and head injuries.

The driver of the camper, Ruby Faith Clarke of Dwight, sustained facial cuts and broken ribs.
