Brown James Leslie Brown, a highly respected resident of Melancthon, passed away at Shelburne District Hospital on Sunday, May 26th, 1968, in his 51st year, following a few months' illness. He was born at Jessopville on February 9th, 1918, a son of Francis Brown and Margaret Watson. On October 9th, 1943, he married Muriel Little of Primrose and resided at Jessopville until 1948, when he moved to Melancthon to operate the general store and post office. He drove a school bus for 17 years. Jim, as he was known to all, had won himself a host of loyal friends. He leaves to mourn, beside his wife and two daughters, Marlene of Toronto and Cathy at home, four sisters and three brothers: Alma (Mrs. Cecil Rodgers), Jessopville; Bill, Redickville; Reta (Mrs. John Kenny) Fort Erie; Gladys (Mrs. Harold Day) Grand Valley; Borden of Whitfield; Harvey of Jessopville; Phyllis (Mrs. Glen West), Amaranth. Two brothers predeceased him in infancy. Rev. W. G. Dickson conducted the funeral service on Tuesday, May 28 from the Gamble Funeral Home, Shelburne. Pallbearers were friends of the deceased: Eldon McBride, Almer Allen, Earl Jacklin, John McCue, Hugh Reid and Marna McComb. The floral tributes, donations to the Cancer Fund, the Heart Foundation and District Hospital bore silent testimony to the esteem in which he was held. The flowerbearers were neighbors and friends: Ken Brown, Bill Sawden, Allie McComb, Kurt Heckler, Sam Pritchard, Harvey Howes, William McCarthy, Glen Prior, Eugene Matthews and Bev Little. L., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Little, of Primrose, became the bride of Mr. T. James L. Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Brown, of Jessopville. Rev. J. H. Pogson, of Shelburne, performed the ceremony. The bride, attired in a dusty rose wool dress with brown accessories, was attended by her sister, Miss Doris Little, in overseas green wool with black accessories. The groomsman was Mr. Harvey Brown, of Toronto, brother of the groom. A reception was held at the home of the bride's parents for the immediate families, after which the young couple left on a motor trip to points south. They will reside at Jessopville.
