WM. McCAGUE: Early on Saturday morning, May 26th, death entered the home and carried off a highly respected resident of Beeton in the person of Mrs. William McCague. Deceased was in her 62nd year and had been in failing health for about one year. Mrs. McCague was the eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Dermott, of Mono. In the year 1884 she was married to her now bereaved husband and settled in the Relessey neighborhood where she was held in genuine respect and affection by all who knew her. Some ten years ago Mr. and Mrs. McCague retired from the farm and moved to Beeton. The subject of our sketch was of a quiet, kindly disposition and was a devoted wife and mother, whose memory and good deeds will be held in grateful remembrance. She leaves to mourn her loss a heart-broken husband, two sons and seven daughters, namely, R. A. McCague, Beeton; Herbert McCague, Shelburne; Mrs. Roy McRitchie, Hanover; Mrs. Edwin Whitten, Crombie's; Mrs. Harry Service, Reddickville; Mrs. J. A. Fines, Mrs. W. G. Newton, Mrs. Arthur Kirkpatrick and Mrs. W. J. Fleming, all living in the vicinity of Shelburne. She also leaves three sisters and four brothers, Mrs. J. Rinn, McIntyre; Mrs. J. Service, Reddickville; Mrs. George Maharg, Camilla; Joseph and Samule Dermott, Orangeville, and Robert and William Dermott, Camilla, Her mother predeceased her some three months ago and her father by twenty-seven years. The funeral, which was held from her late residence in Beeton to Shelburne Cemetery on Monday, May 28th, was largely attended by neighbors and friends, including a number from her old home in Relessey. The funeral service at the home was conducted by Rev. E. J. Adams, of the United Church, Beeton, and Mr. Thomas Watterson, assisted by Rev. J. A. Leece, at the graveside. The remains were borne to their last resting place by her four brothers, Joseph, Robert, Samuel and William Dermott, a nephew, W. J. McCague, and a brother-in-law, James Rinn. The floral tributes included a pillow from the husband and family, a spray from the grandchildren, a wreath from the brothers and sisters and a spray from Mr. and Mrs. A. Prentice. Deceased was the youngest and last surviving member of his family. He was born in Markham Township, near Richmond Hill. At the age of 12 years he moved with his parents to the Township of Mono, settling near Relessey. Here he resided until the death of his wife, whose maiden name was Margaret Jane Dermott. She predeceased him eleven years ago. Since then he has made his home with his family. Mr. McCague was a man of few words, having a quiet, peaceable disposition, very much devoted to his home and family. He had been bedfast, only one day, although when a young man he patiently bore ill health for a number of years, but in later life his health greatly improved, except for occasional heart attacks which his demise was attributed to. Just two years ago he was able to enjoy a trip to Western Canada, accompanied by his daughter, Mrs. J. A. Fines. His passing is mourned by two sons, Andrew, of Beeton, and Herbert, of Shelburne, and seven daughters, Mrs. W. J. Fleming, formerly of Shelburne; Mrs. W. G. Newton, Violet Hill; Mrs. Arthur Kirkpatrick, Whitfield; Mrs. J. A. Fines, Granger; Mrs. Roy Ritchie, Hanover; Mrs. Harry Service, Redickville, and Mrs. Edwin Whitten, Crombie; also eighteen grandchildren. The funeral, which was quite largely attended, was held to Shelburne Cemetery on Friday, Oct. 20th. The service at the house and graveside was conducted by Mr. Thomas Watterson, and the remains were borne to their last resting place by his six surviving sons-in-law, Messrs. W. G. Newton, J. A. Fines, Arthur Kirkpatrick, Harry Service, Ray McRitchie and Edwin Whitten. The floral tributes bore silent testimony to the esteem in which the departed was held. She then moved to Toronto, where she resided until her death. McCAGUE: There passed away Saturday morning, March 23rd, 1957, in Brampton Hospital, after a few months' illness, Herbert Garfield McCague. He was in his 66th year. The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William McCague, of Relessey, in June, 1918, he was married to Sara Kirkpatrick, who survives him. The couple spent most of their days in Shelburne district, until they moved to Brampton, three years ago. The funeral was held from the Gamble Funeral Home, Shelburne, on Monday, March 25th, at 2.30 p.m. Service was conducted by Mr. C. Cowan, assisted by Mr. S. Rickman, at the graveside. A favorite hymn was sung by Miss Whyte, Miss Harper, Miss Munro and Mr. Rickman. Interment was made in Shelburne cemetery. Deceased was in his 75th year and had been in failing health for some time. Mr. McCague was the 2nd eldest of the family of the late Mr. and Mrs. William McCague, pioneer residents of Relessey Community, Mono Township, and later retired to Beeton. In 1916 he married Harriet Ann Gallaugher, who predeceased him in March 1958. They settled on a farm in West Gwillimbury township not far from Bradford, where they raised a family of five. In 1939 they moved from the farm to Beeton, where Mr. McCague was held in much respect by all who knew him. He was a devoted husband and father. He leaves to mourn his loss two sons and three daughters: Grenville and Angus McCague; Pauline (Mrs. F. Stewart); Ruth (Mrs. L. Catania), all of Beeton, and Bernice (Mrs. E. Fleming), of Toronto, and 14 grandchildren. He also is survived by six sisters: Mrs. George Newton, Mrs. Art Kirkpatrick, Mrs. J. A. J. A. FINES: On Saturday, June 14, 1975, Violet Mae McCague, widow of the late John Alfred Fines, died at Shelburne District Hospital as the result of a fall the previous week. Mrs. Fines was in her 80th year. She was a devoted mother who never missed an opportunity to help anyone in need, and one of her favorite pastimes was working with her flowers. The deceased was born near Relessey in Mono Township, November 5, 1895, to the late William Joseph McCague and Margaret Jane Dermott. On July 1st, 1914, she married John Alfred Fines and moved to Lot 27, 1st Line, Mono, where she resided until April 1947, when she and her husband retired to Owen Sound Street, Shelburne. Her husband predeceased her on May 20th, 1968. She leaves to mourn her loss two daughters, Meretta (Mrs. Harold Rutledge) of Shelburne, and Blanche (Mrs. Ross Avison) of Rosemont; and four grandchildren, Sheilda (Mrs. Gordon Cave), Lawrie and Sharon Rutledge, and Gerald Avison; and two great-grandchildren, Brian and Karen Cave; and two sisters, Etta (Mrs. Arthur Kirkpatrick) and Zella (Mrs. Harry Service). Mrs. Fines was a member of Primrose and Trinity United Church, Shelburne, and was always active in church work. She took a great interest in Elba, and later Shelburne, Women's Institute. Rev. Bruce Besley conducted the funeral service Tuesday, June 17th, from the Gamble Funeral Home. A favourite hymn of hers was sung, 'In the Garden'. The pallbearers were three grandsons, Lawrie Rutledge, Gerald Avison, Gordon Cave, and three nephews, Ralph Fines, Maurice Newton and Eric Kirkpatrick. Deceased was in her sixty-seventh year. The late Ms. McRitchie was born in Mono Township, Dufferin County, on February 1st, 1897. She was a daughter, Velma Jane, of the late William McCague and Margaret Jane Dermott McCague. On April 25th, 1923, she married Mr. Roy McRitchie at Beeeton, Ont., who survives with two sons and two daughters, Bruce McRitchie of R.R. 2, Walkerton, Oliver at home, (Fern) Mrs. Chesley Strickland of Toronto and Miss Muriel McRitchie at home. Five grandchildren and three sister also survive, Mrs. Arthur Kirkpatrick, Mrs. John Fines and Mrs. Harry Service of Shelburne. Two brothers and three sister are predeceased. The late Mrs. Ritchie was a member of the General Assembly and Church of The First Born. The remains rested at the Richardson Funeral Home until Sunday, where funeral services were conducted by Mr. Carson Cowan and Mrs. Andrew Blair, both of Toronto. Messrs. Alex Schwartz of Hanover, Howard Richardson of R.R. 1 Walkerton, Fred Keller of Durham, Peter Witzke, Joseph Straba and Albert Zimmerman, all of Chesley, acted as casket bearers, and Brian and Ivan Richardson and Herman Ahrens carrried the floral tributes. EDWIN WHITTEN: The community was shocked to learn of the passing of Reta Sarah McCague beloved wife of Edwin Whitten on Tuesday, afternoon, February 6th, 1962, in Shelburne District Hospital after a ten day illness caused by a heart condition. The late Mrs. Whitten was the youngest daughter of the late William McCague and Margaret Dermott, of Mono township and was in her 60th year. In October of 1921 she married Edwin Whitten of Amaranth where they farmed on lot 19 of the second concession of the township until the marriage of their son. Since that they have resided in Shelburne. The funeral which was largely attended was held on Thursday, February 8th, 1962 from the Gamble Funeral Home, Shelburne. The service was ably conducted by Mr. Carson Cowan, who spoke comforting words from 2nd Corinthians, chapter 5, and exhortation to live for the Eternal treasure that lives beyond this life as the departed sister had done. He was assisted by Mr. Andrew Blair at the mortuary. Left to mourn her loss are her husband, son, Austin and his wife Marion, and grandchildren, Lynn, Donna, and Diane. Four sisters, Mrs. Art Kirkpatrick, Mrs. J. A. Fines and Mrs. Harry Service, all of Shelburne and Mrs. Roy Ritchie of Hanover. Two sisters, Mrs. W.
