FOUNDS, wtn Samuel DERMOTT & Jennie WILSON both of Mono, on April 3, 1907, at Mono Shelburne Free Press & Economist, July 14, 1954 - WILLIAM JOHN DERMOTT: A well known and highly respected resident of the Primrose community, William John Dermott passed away at "The Elms" Nursing Home, Shelburne, Wednesday, June 30th, after a four weeks' illness. "Will," as he was known to a host of friends, was born on the Centre road of Mono township, on February 29, 1876, and was in his 79th year. He was a son of the late Joseph Dermott and Annie Aikins. In his younger days he was a farmer by trade, and often recalled helping to build several barns in the district. Over fifty years ago he purchased the farm on lot 22, Centre road, Mono, where he has since resided. A home loving man he retained his interest and activities until a few days prior to his death. On April 3rd, 1907, he married Charlotte Ann Wilson, who predeceased him on January 25th, 1948. Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Norman Lindsay (Viola), of Granger, a son Harry, at home, and a granddaughter, Evelyn Dermott. Three sisters and two brothers also survive, Mrs. Anna Rinn, Mrs. Sarah Service, Mrs. Mary Maharg, all of Shelburne, Joseph, of Orangeville, and Samuel, Camilla. A sister, Mrs. Margaret McCague, and a brother, Robert, predeceased him. He was a member of St. James Anglican church, Primrose, having served as a warden for a number of years, and a faithful attendant at church. The remains rested at his late residence, where a great many friends and neighbors called to pay their respects. Funeral service was conducted at the Gamble Funeral Home, on Saturday, July 3rd, at 2.30 p.m., by Rev. J. M. Dobson, rector of St. James Church. Interment was made in Shelburne Cemetery. The pallbearers were five nephews, Alvin Dermott, Milford Maharg, Frank Dermott, Ronald Wilson, Earl Service and a neighbor, Perry Lindsay. The beautiful floral tributes were carried by Elroy Wilson, Herb Elgie, Stanley Summerfield, Ross Allen, George Buchanan and Bartley Wilson. W. J. DERMOTT: Mrs. William John Dermott, a highly respected resident of this community, passed away at her home on lot 22, Centre Road, Mono, on Sunday morning, January 25th, after a lengthy illness. She was in her 66th year. The former Charlotte Ann Wilson, eldest daughter of Henry Wilson and Martha Jane Found. Mrs. Dermott had spent her lifetime in the Primrose district. On April 3rd, 1907, she was united in marriage with William John Dermott, who survives, along with a daughter, Mrs. Norman Lindsay (Viola), of Granger, a son, Joseph Henry (Harry) at home, a little granddaughter Evelyn Dermott, four sisters, Mrs. R. J. Dermott (Nellie), Mrs. D. McVannel (Jennie), Mrs. H. Walker (Clara), and Miss Mary Elizabeth Wilson and three brothers, Dennison, of Orillia, Groves, of Alliston, and Elroy, of Primrose. The late Mrs. Dermott was a member of St. James' Anglican Church, Primrose, and when health permitted, a regular church attendant. She was also an active member of the Women's Guild and the Elba Women's Institute. The funeral service was held in the Gamble Funeral Home in Shelburne on Tuesday, January 27th, at 2 p.m. and was followed by interment in the Mortuary of Shelburne cemetery. The Rev. J. H. Pogson, rector of St. James' Church, Primrose, conducted the service and was assisted by Rev. H. 0. Hutcheson. Mr. Pogson spoke comforting words from Job 1:21, "The Lord Gave and the Lord Hath Taken Away: Blessed be the Name of the Lord." The pallbearers were the three brothers, Dennison, Groves and Elroy Wilson, a cousin, Edgar Fines, of Mount Forest, and Perry Lindsay and Herb. Elgie. LINDSAY: After a lengthy illness at Shelburne Hospital, Viola Bernice (Dermott) Lindsay passed away peacefully in Dufferin Area Hospital, Orangeville, on Wednesday, November 15, 1978, in her 70th year. She was the daughter of Wm. J. and Charlotte Anne Dermott, late of Mono Township. Viola was born in Mono and lived there all her young life. She attended Gleno Public School and St. James Anglican Church, Primrose, where she was organist for over 25 years. In June of 1942, Viola married Norman Lindsay and continued to live in Mono Township until 1963 when they retired and moved to First Avenue, Shelburne, where Norman still resides. During their years together in Shelburne, Viola was active in the Hospital Auxiliary and Elba Women's Institute groups. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Norman, and one brother, Harry Dermott, of West Broadway, Orangeville, along with several nieces and nephews. The funeral was held on November 17th from the Gamble Funeral Home, Shelburne, with Rev. McDermott officiating. Pallbearers were cousins, Alvin Dermott and Ronald Wilson, a nephew Maurice Little, and neighbors David Barr, Fred Wells and Harold Alexander. Flowerbearers were nephews, Clifford Little, Allan Little and Mervyn Ferris, and a neighbor, Harold Rutledge. Interment was in Shelburne Cemetery. 2.
