Born 26 Aug 1883 Grant Township, Huron, Michigan, United States, died 06 Aug 1935 Grant Township, Huron, Michigan, United States, 51 years CASS CITY CHRONICLE - 9 August 1935: ********************************* Louis Maharg, age 52, who resided in Grant Township, 6 miles north of Cass City, was so seriously injured late Monday afternoon, in a fall from a tractor that his death occurred about two o'clock the following afternoon. Mr. Maharg has cut about 100 acres of grain for neighboring farmers this summer with his tractor and binder and was engaged on the last job of this kind he intended to do this season, on the John Brown farm, within a half mile of Mr. Maharg's home, when the accident happened. Both Mr. Brown and his son, Edward, were in the field throwing oat bundles from the path so that the tractor and binder could make the second round of the field. The tractor gave a jump throwing Mr. Maharg from the machine. Physicians are of the opinion that the crushing of the fourth and fifth cervical vertebrae was caused by his fall. The right leg was broken in two places and his arm and side were badly bruised and crushed, his neck was fractured, and other internal injuries. Mr. Maharg's body was rolled for some distance by the bundle carrier of the grain binder. The tractor turned in a circle and had started back toward Mr. Maharg and was within 75 feet of him when Edward Brown reached the machine and stopped it. Mr. Maharg was taken to Pleasant Home Hospital where it was found that his body was paralyzed from his shoulders down. Death relieved from his intense suffering early Tuesday afternoon. He had spent his lifetime in Grant Township, except for three years in Flint. He was an unusually industrious man. Interment was in Elkland Cemetery. Children: 1.
