Marie Phillips

Marie Pitman Phillips of Bakersville went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 23, 2011 at her home surrounded by family. She was the daughter of the late George and Ethel Pitman and wife of the late Arnold Phillips, who passed away in 2008. Marie was also preceded in death by a son, Allen Phillips; a daughter, Linda Ballenger; a grandson, Michael Phillips; a great-grandson, Jeremy Roland; brothers: Bruce, Jack, and B.F. Pitman; sisters; Joyce Evans, Alice Greene, and Opal Buchanan.

Marie loved to spend time with her family and was a Member of Cub Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors are sons: Arnold Phillips, Jr. and wife Naomi, Jimmy Phillips and wife Betty of Bakersville, Randy Phillips and wife Donna of Spruce Pine; daughters, Judy Roland and husband Horace of Marion, Janice Hoilman and husband Harold of Bakersville, Jackie Lail and husband Ernie of Hickory; brothers, Buster, Clinton, and Tommy Pitman of Hickory; sisters; Virginia Kanipe and Sondra Hayes of Hickory; twenty-three grandchildren; forty-five great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Marie married Arnold Shelby Phillips, son of Oscar James Phillips and Nora Stewart. (Arnold Shelby Phillips was born on 10 Apr 1924 in Bakersville, Mitchell, North Carolina, United States of America, died on 26 Nov 2008 in Bakersville, Mitchell, North Carolina, United States of America and was buried in Gouge Cemetery, Mitchell, North Carolina, United States of America.)
