Valdese, N.C. - Mr. Edward Lee Phillips Sr., 47, of Valdese, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, June 30, 2007, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem after a courageous battle with leukemia.
Mr. Phillips was born Jan. 6, 1960, in Mitchell County to the late Edward Eugene and Frances Ruth Phillips Phillips.
He was employed with Kincaid Furniture Co. in Hudson and was a member of Smarts Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Joe Carlton.
Surviving are his wife, Gail Smart Phillips of the home; two sons, Edward Lee Phillips Jr. of the home and John Douglas Pierce of Valdese; two granddaughters, Alita Pierce and Memphis Pierce, both of Valdese; a brother, Donald Phillips of Granite Falls; and four sisters, Frances Carlton of Hudson and Kathy English and husband, Ricky, Vivian Arrowood and husband, Doug, and Tammy Lingerfelt and husband, Kenneth, all of Bakersville. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Edward Lee Phillips Sr. will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2007, at Smarts Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles Lewis officiating.
Interment will follow in Smarts Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight, Monday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese, where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
