Helen Boynton Obituary

Helen C. (Hodgson) Boynton, 89, of Wethersfield, widow of Charles W. Boynton after 45 years of marriage, died Monday (March 10, 2003) after a short period of declining health. A native of East Berlin, the daughter of the late Dr. Thomas C. and the late Susie (Penfield) Hodgson, she graduated from Colby Junior College in 1931, had a long professional career highlighted by working as secretary for Canon Jones at Christ Church Cathedral in Hartford for 25 years, and discovering that she was too young to retire at the age of 70, worked at the office of the Rocky Hill Congregational Church, and continued her volunteer work in Wethersfield at Mediplex, First Church of Christ in Wethersfield, and for the Literacy Program in Hartford. All who knew her were touched by her quiet goodness and her nurturing spirit. She is survived by her four daughters and three sons-in-law, Judith and Harold Reynolds in Florida, Sue Boynton with whom she made her home, Patricia and Stephen Gold in Washington, and Pamela and Jerry Sorrow in Wisconsin; three grandchildren, Lori Troup, Brent Reynolds, and Jennifer Averitt; two great-grandchildren, Brittany Ann Troup, and Caylie Grace Troup; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her beloved brother, Atty. John P. Hodgson. Her four devoted daughters wish her eternal peace, and thank her for the wonderful memories she has left each of them to personally cherish. A memorial service will be held at First Church of Christ, Congregational in Wethersfield on a day and at a time to be announced. Burial in Wilcox Cemetery, East Berlin, will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations to the Memorial Fund of First Church of Christ, Congregational, 250 Main Street, Wethersfield 06109. Porter's Funeral Service (www.portersfuneral.com) in Kensington is serving the family.
