Marriage Notes:
Orangeville Banner - Thursday, November 22, 1934 - Page 4 - SHOWER FOR NEWLYWEDS: On Wednesday evening, November 7, the home of Mr. ad Mrs. James Stinson, 2nd line, west, Mono, was the scene of a happy gathering when upwards of one hundred and fifty friends and neighbors assembled to present Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Laverty with a miscellaneous shower, in honor of their recent marriage. Promptly t 11 o'clock the bride and groom were ushered into the living room and seated in a daintily decorated chair, over which was suspended a large white wedding bell and pink and white streamers. After a few well-chosen words of congratulations to the bride and groom, Mr. I. J. Murphy, who acted as chairman, called on William L. Ewing to read the address. In brief and fitting words the bride and groom thanked their friends for the numerous and useful gifts with which they had been honored. After speeches from a number of those present, the happy couple were showered with confetti from the wedding bell. A dainty lunch was then served and the remainder of the evening was spent in games and dancing, the merriment continuing until the wee hours.
The address read as follows: Dear Ina and Gordon,- We, a number of your friends and neighbors, have assembled here tonight to extend our hearty congratulations on your recent marriage and to convey out best wishes for a lifetime of peace, prosperity and happiness together. We are sorry to lose you, Ina, but we know that you will be an asset to the district to which you are going. As a memento of this occasion we ask you to accept theses gifts and trust that hey may often remind you of this pleasant evening.
Marriage, blushing little lady, Is Love, sunny path and shady, Over which two hearts shall wander Of each other growing fonder.
As you stroll to each tomorrow, You will come to joy and sorrow, And as faithful man and wife Read the trouble book of life.
Signed on behalf of your friends and neighbours. Mrs. A. J. Crago, Mrs. Garfield Irwin.
