ROBERT BIRD

Robert A. Bird, 86, of N2962 Oaklane Road, Brownsville, died Monday, Aug. 7, 1995, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

He was born on Jan. 7, 1909, in South Byron, a son of Sidney H. and Maude Sampson Bird. On Sept. 18, 1929, he married Nellie F. Worthing in the Town of Oakfield.

Mr. Bird was a graduate of Oakfield High School. He was owner of Birdlawn Farms with registered Holstein cattle since 1929. He also operated Robert A. Bird Insurance Agency. He served as president of the Bank of Oakfield before retiring in 1993. He also was president and secretary of Mount Pleasant Cemetery Association and was a Byron Town board member.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Lomira, and Oakfield Lodge No. 158 Free & Accepted Masons.

He was secretary of the American Dairy Association in 1957 and president in 1960. He was director of the Farm Bureau, a master of the local Grange, and a member of the Pure Milk Products Cooperative Board. Mrs Bird was president of the Fond du Lac County Holstein Association, a director of the Wisconsin Holstein Breeders Association for 12 years, and was the first vice president of the first World Dairy Expo in Madison. He was chairman of the Wisconsin State June Dairy Month Promotion.

Mr. Bird received an outstanding service award from the Fond du Lac County Holstein Association, and received numerous awards from the Wisconsin Junior Dairymen Association, FFA, state Department of Agriculture and the University of Wisconsin College of Agriculture. He exhibited prize-winning Holsteins at county and state fairs and district and state shows.

Survivors include one son, Peter of Brownsville; one daughter, Susan Schaefer and her husband Larry of Fond du Lac; three grandsons Robert, Joseph and Eric; and three brothers, Bennett S. and his wife Ethel of Oshkosh, Sidney H. of Bradenton, Fla., and Norris B. and his wife Mary Ann of Fond du Lac.

Preceding him in death were his wife on Dec. 5, 1993; one grandson; and three sisters, Mary Steiner, Florence Panetti and Margaret H. Cowles.

Services: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lomira. The Rev. Don Smit will officiate. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in the Town of Oakfield.

Visitation: From 5 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mach Funeral Chapel and at the church on Thursday from 1 a.m. to the time of services.

Memorials in his name may be directed to the church.
