On Thursday last Mrs. George Hodgson passed away at her home in Amaranth after a few weeks illness, aged 69 years. Deceased was a very highly respected lady and had resided in Amaranth, on the farm on which she died, about some 24 years. Mrs. Hodgson was married some 45 years ago at Whitby, Ontario and her maiden name was Maria Edington. Her home was previous to marriage at Stansted, Quebec. The bereaved husband and their two sons survive. The sons are Mr. W. H. Hodgson who resides at Whitby, and Mr. Thomas W. Hodgson, of Amaranth. One sister, Miss Mary Edington also survives and was living with Mrs. Hodgson. The funeral took place from the family residence, Lot 4, Con. 1, on Saturday to Greenwood Cemetery and was largely attended. Rev. George W. Tebbs, rector of St. Mark's Church officiated at home and grave. The pall bearers were: Messrs. Ben Robinson, Joseph Gillespie, John Armstrong, Isreal Miller, William Little and James Stinson.
Orangeville Sun Date: 11 Dec 1913, Page: 8, Column: 4, Type: Obituary Orangeville Sun - December 11, 1913 - PASSED AWAY: The death occurred in Amaranth on Thursday, December 4th, of Mrs. Maria Hodgson, beloved wife of Mr. George Hodgson. The late Mrs. Hodgson was born in the province of Quebec 69 years ago, and later with her husband she resided in Ontario county for some years then moving to Amaranth where she had lived for the past 30 years. Deceased was of high character and was highly esteemed by all who knew her. She was ever ready to assist and help those in trouble and her many neighborly acts will long be remembered. No person ever was denied practical sympathy and assistance by her and she was a shining example for the young to follow. Mrs. Hodgson was a staunch member of St. Mark's church and will be greatly missed by her many friends in church circles. The funeral which was largely attended took place on Saturday afternoon the 6th inst, to Greenwood cemetery. Rev. G. W. Tebbs conducted religious services at the house and grave. Besides her husband two sons are left to mourn her loss, William at home and Thomas of Whitby. The pallbearers were: Joseph Glllespie, John Little, Ben Robinson, Israel Miller, J. B. Armstrong and James Stinson.
