The death of George Hodgson, an old and highly thought of resident of the Farmington district, occurred at the home of his son, Thomas, on lot 4, con. 1, Amaranth, on Wednesday, October 27th. He had been in failing health for some time, but his death was due to heart trouble. The late Mr. Hodgson was born at Raglan, Whitby township, near Oshawa on February 3rd, 1847, and was therefore in his eightieth year when over taken by death. He was a son of the late Thomas and Ann Hodgson, early settlers of East Whitby township. Of a family of nine sons and one daughter, only Christopher, a younger brother, survives. In 1871 deceased was married to Maria Edington. The young couple lived for some years at Raglan, on the farm now occupied by his son, Will. In 1891 they moved to lot 4, con. 1, Amaranth, where Mrs. Hodgson predeceased her husband about thirteen years ago. Deceased was a quiet, industrious man, very much devoted to his home and family and a good neighbour. He was an Anglican in religion and a Conservative in politics. He is survived by two sons, Will, of Raglan, and Thos., on the homestead in Amaranth. The funeral, which was largely attended by neighbours and friends, was held to Greenwood cemetery on Friday afternoon, October 29th. Services were conducted at the house and grave by Rev. J.W. McDonald, rector of St. Mark's Anglican church. The pallbearers were Messrs. W. H. Gillespie, J. B. Walker, Jas. M. Stinson, Ben Robinson, Israel Miller and Geo. Smith. The floral tributes included a sickle and sheaf from the family, a wreath from Mr. Gordon Hodgson and a wreath from Mr. and Mrs. Wm. and Miss Sadie Little.
The relatives from a distance included Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Hodgson and family and Mr. Chas Braun of Raglan; Mr. Christopher Hodgson, of Brooklin, Ont.; Dr. E. G. and Miss Blanche Hodgson, of Toronto; Mr. and Mrs. Alden Hodgson, of Kitchener and Mr. Gordon Hodgson, of Toronto.
