MADILL, Robert William (Bob) - At Stevenson Memorial Hospital, Alliston, Ont. on Friday, April 21, 2000. Bob Madill, in his 89th year. Retired Farmer, retired Potato Inspector, Dept. of Agriculture after 19 years of service. Beloved husband of Bernice Maharg of Alliston. Loved father of Jo-Anne and Paul Dreyer of Mansfield, Paul Madill and Michelle Boucher of Barrie. Loved Grandpa of Robyn, Travis, Nicole Dreyer, Tarah and Marco Bonsi and Adam Madill. Loving Great-Grandpa of James, Jacob and Daniel. Dear brother of Thomas Madill of Alliston, Mildred Gillespie of Caledon East and predeceased by May Brett, Fern Stanecki, Kathleen Anderson, Bert Madill and Ellwood Madill. Dear brother-in-law of Verral Gillespie, Milton Brett and Thelma Madill. Fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews. Resting at the W. John Thomas Funeral Home, 244 Victoria St. E., Alliston, from 2-4:30 and 7-9 p.m. on Monday. Funeral Service will be held at Trinity Centennial United Church, Hwy. 89 West at Rosemont, on Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at 1:30 p.m. Interment, Alliston Union Cemetery. If so desired, memorial donations to Trinity Centennial United Church, Rosemont would be appreciated. An L.O.L. No. 9, Rosemont Service will be held at the Funeral Home, Monday evening at 7:30 p.m.

Robert William Madill - 1912 - 2000: Bob was born on January 3, 1912 in Mulmur Twp, on the 3rd Line, just north of Violet Hill. He was the fifth child of eight born to Ella and Albert Madill. He moved to Camilla at the age of seven where he attended public school.
He farmed at home until the age of seventeen, then left to work at Office Specialty in Newmarket, for a year. He then returned to farm at Mono Centre
He moved to Rosemont in 1938. He and Bernice Maharg were married at Camilla on November 30, 1940. He continued to farm and owned a trucking business for 25 years. Once he retired from trucking, he went to work for the Department of Agriculture as a fruit and vegetable inspector, specializing in potatoes, for 19 years. He farmed until he was 77 years old, and then moved to Alliston. Bob had a great love for his family, church and community.
Although we cannot meet him anymore, his good will, love for his family, generosity, humour, friendship, warm heart, strong faith, and smiling face will live forever in the minds of his two children, Jo-Anne and Paul. He was very interested, involved and supportive in the lives of his five grandchildren, Robyn, Travis, Nicole, Tarah and Adam. He was a faithful fan, attending hockey, baseball, track meets, horse shows, graduations and other school functions. He also took a great interest in his three great-grandsons, James, Jacob and Daniel.
His major interests included socializing, music, looking at pictures and reminiscing about cars. Over the years, he owned 88 cars and 51 trucks.
He thrived on contact with people and always had a kind word or a wee joke that made your day. A very dear, kind friend to all, Bob Madill will always be alive in our hearts, our memories, and our church history.
His gentle strength and wisdom.
And the many ways he cared,
So often played a special part,
In the bond of love we shared.

Robert married Mary Bernice Maharg, daughter of George Robert Maharg and Mary Dermott, on 30 Nov 1940. (Mary Bernice Maharg was born on 14 Feb 1918, died on 25 Feb 2013 in Shelburne, Dufferin, Ontario, Canada and was buried in Alliston Union Cemetery, Alliston, Ontario, Canada.)

Article Page 5, 1940 - Front Page - CAMILLA NEIGHBORS HONOR NEWLY-WEDDED COUPLE:
On Thursday evening, Nov. 28th, upwards of two hundred friends and neighbors assembled to do honor to Miss Bernice Maharg and Mr. Robert Madill, Camilla, whose marriage took place on Saturday. The evening was pleasantly spent in dancing to music provided by Dermott's orchestra. Later, Mr. Wilfred McKim called the gathering to order and the guests of honor were showered with many beautiful gifts. Miss Elma Parson read an appropriate address, after which the young couple thanked their many friends. Congratulatory speeches were given by Rev. T. V. Hart, Mr. Fred Thompson and Mr. Robert Forsythe, the last named having come from Archydale, Sask. recently to spend the winter in Orangeville and vicinity. Lunch was served and dancing resumed for a few pleasant hours.
