Shelburne Free Press & Economist, July 14, 1954 - WILLIAM JOHN DERMOTT: A well known and highly respected resident of the Primrose community, William John Dermott passed away at "The Elms" Nursing Home, Shelburne, Wednesday, June 30th, after a four weeks' illness.
"Will," as he was known to a host of friends, was born on the Centre road of Mono township, on February 29, 1876, and was in his 79th year. He was a son of the late Joseph Dermott and Annie Aikins.
In his younger days he was a farmer by trade, and often recalled helping to build several barns in the district. Over fifty years ago he purchased the farm on lot 22, Centre road, Mono, where he has since resided. A home loving man he retained his interest and activities until a few days prior to his death.
On April 3rd, 1907, he married Charlotte Ann Wilson, who predeceased him on January 25th, 1948.
Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Norman Lindsay (Viola), of Granger, a son Harry, at home, and a granddaughter, Evelyn Dermott.
Three sisters and two brothers also survive, Mrs. Anna Rinn, Mrs. Sarah Service, Mrs. Mary Maharg, all of Shelburne, Joseph, of Orangeville, and Samuel, Camilla. A sister, Mrs. Margaret McCague, and a brother, Robert, predeceased him.
He was a member of St. James Anglican church, Primrose, having served as a warden for a number of years, and a faithful attendant at church.
The remains rested at his late residence, where a great many friends and neighbors called to pay their respects.
Funeral service was conducted at the Gamble Funeral Home, on Saturday, July 3rd, at 2.30 p.m., by Rev. J. M. Dobson, rector of St. James Church. Interment was made in Shelburne Cemetery.
The pallbearers were five nephews, Alvin Dermott, Milford Maharg, Frank Dermott, Ronald Wilson, Earl Service and a neighbor, Perry Lindsay.
The beautiful floral tributes were carried by Elroy Wilson, Herb Elgie, Stanley Summerfield, Ross Allen, George Buchanan and Bartley Wilson.
Floral tributes were: Pillow, the Family, Casket spray, granddaughter. Wreaths - Anna, Sarah, Mary, Joe and Myrtle, Sam and Ethel. Basket - Elroy, Dan and Cora, Nell and Alvin, Jane and Wilson Groves and Elma. Sprays - Family of the late Stewart Maharg, Michigan, U.S.A.; Beulah and Vera; Garfield and Laura Mills; Mrs. Jas. Wilson and boys; Elwood and Marjorie, Bob and Bernice, Melita and Betty, Frank and Ruth; William, Earl and Harry Service.
Friends were present at the funeral from Sharon, Mount Forest, Collingwood, Alliston, McIntyre and Orangeville.
