LINDSAY: After a lengthy illness at Shelburne Hospital, Viola Bernice (Dermott) Lindsay passed away peacefully in Dufferin Area Hospital, Orangeville, on Wednesday, November 15, 1978, in her 70th year.
She was the daughter of Wm. J. and Charlotte Anne Dermott, late of Mono Township. Viola was born in Mono and lived there all her young life. She attended Gleno Public School and St. James Anglican Church, Primrose, where she was organist for over 25 years. In June of 1942, Viola married Norman Lindsay and continued to live in Mono Township until 1963 when they retired and moved to First Avenue, Shelburne, where Norman still resides. During their years together in Shelburne, Viola was active in the Hospital Auxiliary and Elba Women's Institute groups.
She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Norman, and one brother, Harry Dermott, of West Broadway, Orangeville, along with several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held on November 17th from the Gamble Funeral Home, Shelburne, with Rev. McDermott officiating. Pallbearers were cousins, Alvin Dermott and Ronald Wilson, a nephew Maurice Little, and neighbors David Barr, Fred Wells and Harold Alexander. Flowerbearers were nephews, Clifford Little, Allan Little and Mervyn Ferris, and a neighbor, Harold Rutledge.
Interment was in Shelburne Cemetery.

Shelburne Free Press and Economist Date: 25 Jun 1942 Shelburne Free Press & Economist, June 25, 1942 - LINDSAY-DERMOTT: St. Paul's Anglican Church, Shelburne was the scene of a quiet but pretty wedding on Tuesday, June 16, 1942, at 3.30 p.m., when Rev. J. H. Pogson united in matrimony Viola Bernice, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. J. Dermott, and Mr. Norman C. Lindsay, youngest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Lindsay. The bride wore a street length gown of dusty rose sheer with corsage of sweat peas and carried a white prayer book. Miss Kathleen Wilson was bridesmaid dressed in rose sheer trimmed with white and white accessories. She carried a bouquet of sweat peas. Mr. Harry Dermott, brother of the bride, was groomsman. A reception was held at the home of the bride's parents for the immediate families, after which the bride and groom left on a motor trip north, the bride traveling in a blue figured crepe dress with white accessories. On their return they will reside on the First Line of Mono.
