Shelburne Free Press & Economist - September 25, 1941 - KATHLEEN HAZEL SMALL: Kathleen Hazel Small, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Small, 457 Quebec Ave., Toronto, formerly of Shelburne, passed away at the home of her parents on Saturday, Sept. 20th, aged 21 years. The parents, one brother and one sister survive. The funeral service was held at St. John's Anglican Church, West Toronto, Tuesday afternoon. Interment took place in Shelburne Cemetery.
Shelburne Free Press & Economist - October 2, 1941 - KATHLEEN HAZEL SMALL: In St. James' Church, Primrose, the same church where thirty years ago her parents were married, final funeral services were conducted last Tuesday for Kathleen Hazel Small, aged twenty-one years, who died at her home on Quebec Avenue, Toronto, after two weeks' illness. Interment was made in Shelburne Cemetery. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Small, formerly of this district. Relatives and friends filled the church to pay their respects to the deceased and to comfort the parents in their sad bereavement. The service was conducted by Rev. G. P. Parson, the text being taken from St. John's Gospel, 11 chap., 25th verse. Mrs. Robert Lindsay was at the organ. The choir sang two numbers, "The Lord is my Shepherd" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus."
Miss Small was a nurse-in-training at St. Joseph's Hospital, Toronto. Six of her classmates, Misses Blanche Evans, Marjorie Randle, Gladys Bonnell, Kathleen Lockhart, Beatrice Saplet and Anne Scondon, wearing their uniforms and caps, acted as honorary pallbearers. Active pallbearers were Messrs. Cecil Bailey, Wm. Little, Collins Little, Donald Arscott, Jas. Skells and John Robinson. Assisting in the service was Rev. H. R. Hunt, of St. John's Anglican Church, West Toronto, who had previously conducted a short service in that church, at which many relatives and friends in Toronto were present. The text of his message was taken from St. Mark's, 5:41. Music for the occasion was played by Mrs. Percy MacDonald. Kathleen was well known in the Shelburne district, having visited in the community quite frequently and spending her holidays here on many occasions. She had lived in West Toronto all her life and had attended Annette Street Public School and Humberside Collegiate. She was an active member in St. John's Anglican Church. A large number of people gathered in Shelburne Cemetery. Revs. Parson and Hunt completed the burial service. Flowers were received from many organizations, societies, relatives and friends, many of whom left Toronto to be present at the service. Kathleen is survived by her parents, one sister, Mary, and a brother, Robert.
