Orangeville Sun, Thursday, July 29, 1897 - Page 3, Column 2 - DIED AT A RIPE OLD AGE: Again this community has been called upon to bid a long farewell to an old landmark, Jane Harshaw, who departed this life on Sunday at the home of her son, Mr. John Harshaw of the American hotel. Mrs. Harshaw was born in Ireland and left that country when very young. She lived in the United States and Toronto for some time and for sixty years or more has been a resident of Mono township. Deceased was 87 years of age and was in her usual health until a week ago when she suffered from heart trouble. Deceased was a most estimable lady, her genial manner and kindheartedness made her a universal favorite. She was married twice and leaves a family of four sons and two daughters, all of whom are well off, to mourn her loss. They are Clark Maharg, George H. Harshaw, Mono; Thomas Harshaw, Toronto Junction; John Harshaw, Orangeville; Mrs. Adam Hunter, Pilot Mound, Man., and Mrs. R. Galbraith, Ellesmere. She also leaves 42 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. The funeral took place Tuesday afternoon to Harshaw's burying ground, Prince of Wales road, and notwithstanding the inclement weather was largely attended.
