Orangeville Sun Date: 04 Mar 1875, Page: 2, Column: 4, Type: Obituary
Orangeville Sun, Thursday, March 4, 1875 - Page 2, Column 4 - SAD ACCIDENT: As Mr. A. Maharg, of Amaranth, was oiling the horse power of a sawing machine in motion, on Monday, his right arm got caught in the gearing, and was completely crushed. Drs. Henry and James were immediately sent for, but owing to the almost impassible state of the roads, were unable to reach the sufferer until fifteen hours after the accident. They amputated the arm about three inches below the elbow joint. This is but one of a long series of accidents which have befallen Mr. Maharg within a very brief period. Last fall his residence, a portion of his crop, and the fences on his farm were destroyed by bush fires; later in the season he had three valuable head of cattle and a horse killed on the railway; while this winter his wife and a child died, and now he has lost his arm. In this long list of calamities he has the sympathy of the entire community.
