Shelburne Free Press & Economist - October 6, 1970 - HAZEL BUCHANAN: After a long illness from cancer, borne with unusual courage, there passed away in Shelburne District Hospital on September 17, 1970, a lifelong resident of Dufferin County in the person of Hazel Buchanan.
Born in Mono Township in 1898, Hazel was one of twin daughters born to Frederick Buchanan and Elizabeth Little. She lived a quiet life with her parents on the Centre Road, Mono, and at Elbe Corner until nine years ago, when she and her mother moved to Shelburne. She lived the last four years with her sister, Mrs. H. Elgie of Shelburne and worker three years in Shelburne District Hospital.
She was a member of the Primrose United Church UCW and Elba Women's Institute. Of a kindly nature, she will be sadly missed by her two sisters, Violet (Mrs. Herb Elgie) of Shelburne and bertha (Mrs. Frank Turner) of Camilla, and one brother, George of Shelburne; also seven nieces, five nephews, nine grandnieces and five grand-nephews.
Service was held from the Gamble Funeral Home on September 19th with Rev. J. W. Hofland officiating. The pallbearers were six nephews: Wallace and Allan Elgie, Doug and Alan Buchanan, John Turner and Arnold Erickson.
The flowerebearers were six nieces: Eveline Turner, Bessie Armstrong, Patsey Renick, Norma Horner, Florence Erickson and Lynn Buchanan.
Interment was made in the Shelburne Cemetery.
