The marriage ceremony was performed in St. James Church, Primrose by Rev. W. A. Graham of Shelburne. Mr. and Mrs. Buchanan will reside on the Centre Road, Mono.
Shelburne Free Press & Economist - June 10, 1959 - 62nd WEDDING ANNIVERSARY: Mr. and Mrs. Fred Buchanan, of Elba, celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on Monday of last week, June 1st. Mr. Buchanan had his leg amputated at the knee last December 16th, but other than that he and Mrs.Buchanan are enjoying the twilight of life very nicely.
One daughter, Miss Hazel, resides at home with them. There is a family of one son and three daughters, twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
During all their married life Mr. and Mrs. Buchanan have not had one death in the four generations. Mr. Buchanan is in his 88th year and Mrs.Buchanan, who is a sister of Mrs. Joseph Little and Mrs. Robert Bailey, both of Shelburne, is in her 86th year. Those who know them wish them most heartily many blessings in the days to come.
Shelburne Free Press & Economist - April 28, 1970 - ELIZABETH BUCHANAN: On Monday, March 30th, 1970, at the Elizabeth Nursing Home in orangeville, Mrs. Elizabeth (Little) Buchanan, a highly respected resident of Dufferin County, passed away in her 97th year.
Mrs. Buchanan was the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Little of Elba. She received her education at Mono Dell School, was an active member of the Elba Women's Institute and was a member of Primrose United Church. She later attended Trinity United Church in Shelburne since her retirement in 1961.
In the year 1897, on June 1st, she married Frederick Buchanan of Mono Township. During her life she was gifted in needlecraft and rug making, winning many prizes at local fairs.
The possessor of a warm and friendly personality, many were friends and acquaintances who visited her during her years of blindness which she bore uncomplainingly in the latter period of her life.
She is sadly missed by her family: Hazel, Violet (Mrs. Herb Elgie) and George of Shelburne; Bertha (Mrs. Turner) of Camilla; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Jane (Mrs. R. Bailey) of Shelburne, and one brother, Robert Little of Toronto. She was predeceased by Joseph G., Martha, W. John, Emily, Thomas and Mamie.
The funeral service was held from the Gamble Funeral Home, Shelburne, and was conducted by Rev. Warren G. Dickson. There was a large attendance of relatives and friends. The pallbearers were five grandsons: Wallace and Allan Elgie, Douglas and Allan Buchanan and John Turner, and nephew Stanley Summerfield.
The flower bearers were great grandchildren and one grandchild.
Final resting place was in Shelburne Cemetery.
