There passed peacefully away in Shelburne District Hospital, on October 12, 1963, Herbert Elgie, eldest son of the late John Elgie and Margaret Ann Nichol.
He was born near the village of Hockley in Adjala township and moved with his parents to the Granger area in Mono township when four years old. In 1924 he married Violet Buchanan and they farmed in that district until ill health forced him to retire eight years ago. He moved to Shelburne in 1966. Mr. Elgie was a member of St. James' Anglican Church, Primrose. Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, Wallace and Alan of Redickville, and six grandchildren, Gwen, Nancy, Judy, Larry, Susan and John Elgie.
Also surviving are three sisters: Annie (Mrs. George Lindsay), Ettie (Mrs. Wilmer Lundy), Mabel (Mrs. Jackson Woods), all of Orangeville; and one brother, Leonard of Barrie.
Service was held at the Gamble Funeral Home, Shelburne, on Tuesday afternoon, October 15th, with Rev. J. W. Hofland officiating. The pallbearers were four old-neighbors, Alvin Dermott, Harry Dermott, Stanley Summerfield and Harold Rutledge; a nephew, Dennis Cooper, and a brother-in-law, George Buchanan. The flower bearers were five grandchildren. Interment was made in Shelburne Cemetery.
