Halbert: Mabel L.
At Dufferin Area Hospital on October 15th, 1986 in her 90th year. Mabel L. Rayfield wife of the late Thomas Little(1938) and the late Leonard Halbert(1973) mother of Jean (Mrs. Elwood Hill), George, Leslie, Arthur, Marjorie Hutchings, Ruby (Mrs. Robert Elver), Helen (Mrs. Ted Evans) and Eric (deceased)' step-mother of Keith and Ivan Halbert and Isael Edmiston and lovingly remembered by 21 grandchildren and 17 grandchildren, Funeral services were held at the Gamble Funeral Home, Shelburne on October 18th. Interment Shelburne Cemetery.

Mabel Halbert described as a great lady
A great lady is how friends have described Mabel -the Old Cog who passed away October 15, 1986 in Dufferin Area Hospital in Orangeville.

She was born in 1897, near Bowling Green in Amaranth Township the seventh child of George Rayfield and Mary Jane Joll.

When she was 5 her family moved to Camilla where all members were active in Church, and community affairs. Mabel attended Toronto Normal School Teacher's Certificate. She taught in the one-room schools at S.S. #2 Caledon and at Whittington. In 1920 she married Thomas Little and moved up the highway to his farm on Elba Hill.

There most of her time was taken up caring for her 8 children and encouraging Tom is his church and outside interests. After his untimely death in 1938, the boys carried on with the farm work and the small children.

In 1950 she married Leonard Halbert father of Keith, & Isabel and went to live in a house on Andrew Street in Shelburne.

After Leonard died she moved to the Simon Street Apartments on Simon Street in Shelburne.

Rev. Bruce Besley & Rev. David Hamilton officiated at the funeral.

Pallbearers were her three sons, George, Leslie and Arthur and Three nephews, George Rayfield, Frances & Allan Brown. Flower bearers were grandchildren Darlene, Tom, Lauri Rusk, Mary Jean, Janet Elver & Stephen Evans.

Surviving also are four daughters Jean, Marjorie, Ruby and Helen.
