Tamara Lynn Chalk Obituary

Tamara Lynn Chalk, 51, of Midland, Michigan, adventurous spirit and loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, daughter and friend, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home with her husband and daughter close by on Saturday morning, February 4, 2023.

Tamara was born in Bay City, Michigan, on January 15, 1972, the oldest of three children of the late Ronald and Penelope Snyder. She grew up in Saginaw, graduated from Saginaw Heritage High School, earned an associate’s degree from Delta College, a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Central Michigan University in 1994 and a bachelor’s degree in education from Saginaw Valley State University.

Tamara married Daniel Chalk on August 4, 2007 in Freeland, Michigan. They welcomed their daughter, Meredith, on July 30, 2013. Tamara loved being a mom. Her emphasis on reading to Meredith and getting her in the swimming pool as an infant, helped Meredith become an avid reader and swimmer.

Tamara worked in both journalism and education, most recently serving as an English as a Second Language tutor in Midland for five years before becoming a full-time mom and homemaker.

Always wanting to try new things, Tamara also worked as a professional photographer, served in the Naval Reserve, and worked in child care.

Tamara was a lifelong Christian Scientist and loved attending Sunday School, church, and her yearly Christian Scientist association meeting. Along with her family, God was most important in her life.

Tamara was active in Girl Scouts both as a girl, when she took part in a Senior Sojourn to Mexico and served on the Mackinac Island Honor Guard, and as an adult, when she served as a leader of multiple Girl Scout troops.

Tamara overcame tremendous adversity after losing her vision seven years ago. She didn’t miss a beat and was an enthusiastic volunteer at Meredith’s schools, in the PTO and in the community. She learned Braille and gave encouragement to others in the local blind and low vision community at support group luncheons, which blessed her and her family with new friendships. Tamara had faith that her vision would be healed and she would see again.

Tamara is survived by her husband Daniel, daughter Meredith, brother Brent Snyder and his wife Amy, sister-in-law Sara Dollman-Jersey and her husband Corey, stepsister Michelle Revette and her husband Brian, stepbrother Kyle Bauer and his wife Becky; nieces and nephews Isaac and Emmett Snyder; Jonah, Lydia, Ruthie and Junie Dollman-Jersey; Iris Chalk; Aidan, Josie and Bram Checkett; Kyra and Paige Bauer; and Kayla and Evan Revette; and several cousins.

Tamara was predeceased by her parents Ronald and Penelope Snyder, brother Jarad Snyder, nephew Magnus Snyder, and stepmother Dawn Snyder.

A celebration of life for Tamara will be held Saturday, February 11 at 7 p.m. at Ware Smith Woolever Funeral home, 1200 West Wheeler Street in Midland, Michigan. Visitation with family members will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Following the celebration, refreshments will be served at a reception at the funeral home.

For those who are not able to attend the celebration, a smaller family gathering will be held on a date to be determined in July. Daniel Chalk will share details of that gathering later this spring.
