Orangeville Banner Date: 31 May 1928, Page: 6, Column: 5, Type: Obituary Orangeville Banner, Thursday, May 31, 1928 - Page 6 - MRS. WM. McCAGUE: Early on Saturday morning, May 26th, death entered the home and carried off a highly respected resident of Beeton in the person of Mrs. William McCague. Deceased was in her 62nd year and had been in failing health for about one year. Mrs. McCague was the eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Dermott, of Mono. In the year 1884 she was married to her now bereaved husband and settled in the Relessey neighborhood where she was held in genuine respect and affection by all who knew her. Some ten years ago Mr. and Mrs. McCague retired from the farm and moved to Beeton. The subject of our sketch was of a quiet, kindly disposition and was a devoted wife and mother, whose memory and good deeds will be held in grateful remembrance. She leaves to mourn her loss a heart-broken husband, two sons and seven daughters, namely, R. A. McCague, Beeton; Herbert McCague, Shelburne; Mrs. Roy McRitchie, Hanover; Mrs. Edwin Whitten, Crombie's; Mrs. Harry Service, Reddickville; Mrs. J. A. Fines, Mrs. W. G. Newton, Mrs. Arthur Kirkpatrick and Mrs. W. J. Fleming, all living in the vicinity of Shelburne. She also leaves three sisters and four brothers, Mrs. J. Rinn, McIntyre; Mrs. J. Service, Reddickville; Mrs. George Maharg, Camilla; Joseph and Samule Dermott, Orangeville, and Robert and William Dermott, Camilla, Her mother predeceased her some three months ago and her father by twenty-seven years. The funeral, which was held from her late residence in Beeton to Shelburne Cemetery on Monday, May 28th, was largely attended by neighbors and friends, including a number from her old home in Relessey. The funeral service at the home was conducted by Rev. E. J. Adams, of the United Church, Beeton, and Mr. Thomas Watterson, assisted by Rev. J. A. Leece, at the graveside. The remains were borne to their last resting place by her four brothers, Joseph, Robert, Samuel and William Dermott, a nephew, W. J. McCague, and a brother-in-law, James Rinn. The floral tributes included a pillow from the husband and family, a spray from the grandchildren, a wreath from the brothers and sisters and a spray from Mr. and Mrs. A. Prentice.
Among the friends who attended the funeral from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Rinn, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Allen, McIntyre; Mr. and Mrs. A. Strongman, Mr. and Mrs. A. Prentice, Mrs. H. Warwark and Miss Olive McCague, all of Toronto; Mr. N. Baker and daughters, Richmand Hill, and Mrs. Garfield Mills, Port Credit.
God knew the road was getting rough, The hills were hard to climb; And in His gentle, loving way, He whispered "peace be thine."
